Police Blotter: Woman asleep in a van — in a ditch

While patrolling the area of Spanner Way in Murrells Inlet at about 2:20 a.m. Feb. 23, a deputy saw a van in a ditch.
There was a woman in the passenger’s seat of the van but she was asleep.
When the deputy awakened the woman — described as highly intoxicated — she said she was waiting for her husband. She said she had no idea the van was in a ditch.
An effort was made to find the woman’s husband but he was not located.
The van was towed. No charges were filed against the woman since she was not found in the driver’s seat.

Thieves steal Crime Watch sign


Apparently, no one was watching the Crime Watch sign that was in the Choppee area of Georgetown County.
A memeber of the Choppee Community Neighborhood Crime Watch group talked with a deputy Feb. 23 and reported the sign near the intersection of Chopee and Rose Hill Roads was taken. There are no suspects.

Man hurts himself with screwdriver

Deputies were sent to Wells Fargo Bank at about 3:45 p.m. Feb. 17 beacuse of a bleeding man behind the building.
At first, the 24-year-old injured man was not found but officers talked with another man who said the person they were looking for was his son who was drunk and had been causing problems at a business near the bank.
When asked how his son recieved his injuries, the man said his son had grabbed a screwdriver and was beating it against his chest “as if he were boasting,” the report states.
While searching for the injured man, the deputies received word a Highway Patrol officer was out with him on Crooked Oak Drive.
When asked how he got hurt, the man said he had been “jumped” so he was asked if he knews his attackers.
“You know I cannot tell you. I am not a snitch,” the man reportedly responded.
The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. At the time of the report, it was unknown if charges would be filed.

Man says he was swindled

A 66-year-old Andrews man said a woman and her daughter — ages 47 and 23 — stopped by his house Feb. 22 and asked to use his phone.
He said one of the women was talking to him while the other walked around his house. Then, the younger woman asked to use his bathroom.
He said she took a long time and be believes she was going through the drawers in the bathroom.
After they left, he noticed he was missing $18 from his wallet and his diabetic medicine needles were also gone.
The man said he had seen the two around the neighborhood but did not know their names until someone showed him their profiles on Facebook.
The case is still being investigated.

Stolen camera

A woman from Mercer Ave. said someone broke into her home Feb. 20 and stole a digital camera from her kitchen table.
The crime was not reported for two days. The woman said she hesitated to file a report because she is afraid someone is out to get her.
She asked that her house be placed on a patrol watch.
