The principal of McDonald Elementary School called a deputy to the campus Jan. 25 because a man on the state’s Sex Offender Registry was spotted loitering around the school.
The principal said when the students were released for the day, one of them ran back in the school very upset.
The student said he was walking home when he saw the 45-year-old man walking towards him. He said the same man had followed him the previous day.
When asked, the 10-year-old student said the man had not touched him and did not say anything.
The principal said she is concerned because the man always walked in the area of the school when students are leaving for the day.
However, based on information provided by the state, there are no restrictions placed on the man so no crime was committed.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division says “due to the convictions and nature of the crimes (the man) does not have any residence restrictions.”
His convictions, which occurred between 2000-2004 were for indecent exposure and peeping and/or voyeurism.
Damaged convertible
A man from Berkeley Court in Murrells Inlet said he heard a noise outside his home at about 3:15 a.m. Jan. 22 but did not think much of it until he heard it again about 15 minutes later.
He went outside to check it out but saw nothing unusual, so he went back inside. About ten minutes later he heard a human “yelp” so he walked outside again.
That is when he saw the top to his convertible had been cut.
He gave the deputy an iron curtain rod he had found next to the car he believes was used to cause the damage.
Nothing appeared to be missing from the car.
Another car vandalized
A woman from Howell Street near Andrews met with a deputy Jan. 22 because someone egged and threw a “dark liquid” on her SUV.
The deputy notes the liquid appeared to be soda or coffee.
The woman said she does not know who did it but added she has people walking through her yard all the time.
Medicine thief
A woman with a history of stealing from WalMart was arrested after trying to shoplift more than $55 worth of cold remedy medicines Jan. 24.
A store security worker saw the 44-year-old Georgetown woman place the meds in her purse. He continued to watch after she tried to leave without paying for the items. He said he had been trying to catch the woman for several months.
As police were arresting the woman, she claimed she could not go to jail because her three-year-old child was alone in her car. The officers checked and the child was in the car with a 22-year-old relative.
Intoxicated man asked to leave
Police were called to Georgetown Ice Jan. 21 because of an unwanted person on the property who had been asked several times to leave.
The 62-year-old Georgetown man was outside the store and was highly intoxicated.
The man — with slurred speech — said there had been a disagreement about hot dogs and raw onions.
“He also continued to repeatedly tell me he has 28 grandchildren,” the officer wrote.
He was charged with trespassing after notice.
