Georgetown police are trying to identify a woman who removed flowers from a Front Street memorial honoring Maj. Spencer Guerry.
Guerry, an assistant police chief in Georgetown, was shot and killed during a traffic stop in 1994. His memorial is located in at the front of Francis Marion Park.
The Guerry family was notified via Facebook on Saturday that the flowers were missing.
Investigators reviewed video from surveillance cameras in the area and a woman is seen removing the flowers and a balloon on Friday evening. She tossed the balloon behind the marker and walked away with the flowers.
DJ attacked for playing song
A 39-year-old DJ who was working at Island Bar and Grill July 18 said he was attacked by a man because he played a song for that man’s girlfriend.
The DJ, whose shirt was covered in blood when deputies arrived, said he played the song because it was requested by the woman. He said the woman was dancing near him which is when her boyfriend got mad and started to leave with her.
The DJ followed them and asked what the problem was. That is when the suspect punched him through one of the window panes on the front door.
The suspect fled the scene leaving his girlfriend behind. Because she was highly intoxicated and cursing at deputies, the 27-year-old Murrells Inlet woman was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Man who threatened
doctor returns to ER
A man who had been warned to stay away from Georgetown Memorial Hospital for threatening staff members earlier this year was taken to the hospital by ambulance Saturday afternoon.
The 43-year-old Andrews man is accused of threatening a doctor and others while in the hospital in the past.
The same doctor was on duty Saturday and said he would not provide medical treatment for the man.
Officers met with the suspect who said he was in pain due to a recent surgery.
After discussing the matter for about 45 minutes, hospital workers agreed to treat the patient — but only with a security guard in the room the entire time.
Beer theft
A 44-year-old Alex Alford Road man is accused of several shopliftings in the past week, including one at Carolina Petro on North Hazard Street last Friday.
A worker said the man grabbed two cases of beer from the cooler. He then walked to the door and said he needed to ask someone outside a question.
He then opened the door and ran towards Duke Street.
He has not been located.
Church vandalism
A caretaker at St. Mary’s AME Church in Pawleys Island reported someone broke in a storage room and busted an air conditioning fan blade cover all to pieces.
Because of evidence found on the scene, it’s believed the damage was caused by a homeless man in the area.
Information is subject to change as the investigation proceeds. Individuals arrested and/or charged have not been convicted.
