A clerk at the Quality Inn of Georgetown called police at about 8:30 p.m. Feb. 9 after a couple dropped a woman off at the hotel and drove away.
The 56-year-old woman from Havelock, N.C. was intoxicated and was slumped over on a couch when officers arrived.
Police tried to find out why the woman was in Georgetown but she could not give a coherent response.
The officers were able to identify her when they found her wallet.
After a while the woman said her husband died at the hotel several years ago and she was there to see him. She then started yelling at the officers to leave her alone.
She did not have a room at the hotel so she was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Student spits in teacher’s cup
A Waccamaw High student was charged with disorderly conduct after he allegedly spit in the cup of one of his teachers Feb. 21.
Other students told the teacher they saw the suspect look in the cup and spit in it. They said he used hand sanitizer on the cup and then put it back.
After being charged, the student was released to the custody of his uncle.
Smoking car leads to drug arrests
While on patrol on Highmarket Street Feb. 20, a deputy saw a car with a cracked windshield that was “smoking so badly” it resembled a mosquito abatement vehicle,” the deputy wrote.
Once a traffic stop was made, the officer noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Along with the driver — a 47-year-old Andrews man — there was a woman, a baby and a teenage girl in the car.
The deputy noted seeing marijuana residue on the baby’s clothing and the teen had an odor of marijuana.
After the stop was made, the teen’s grandmother, who was nearby, drove up and the teen started moving her belongings to her grandmother’s car.
While doing so, the teen allegedly moved the marijuana — which was in a small change purse — from the suspect’s vehicle to her grandmother’s car.
The man was taken to jail. Charges against the woman are possible.
Weapons in student vehicle
A Georgetown High student is scheduled to appear in court in April and was recommended for expulsion after weapons were found in his vehicle on campus Feb. 20.
The police report says the assistant principal searched the vehicle driven by the 20-year-old student and found four knives as well as a variety of bullets.
It’s Fashion shoplifting attempt
An employee of It’s Fashion on North Fraser Street said she was watching as a 23-year-old woman who was in the store took several items of clothing from the racks and concealed them in the clothes she was wearing.
When she confronted the woman who was attempting to leave without paying, the woman confessed and gave the merchandise back.
The worker said she did not want to prosecute but did want the woman placed on trespass notice.
