John Cribb
John Earl Cribb, 88, husband of Fleetie Owens Cribb, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on May 12, 1923, in Georgetown, he was a son of the late James Earl Cribb and the late Minnie Lowrimore Cribb.
Mr. Cribb served as a Carpenter 1st Class in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of World War II.
Following his discharge from the Navy, Mr. Cribb began a 20-year career in construction with Bill Thompson Construction Company.
In 1971 he began working for the Georgetown School Board of Education and retired as the Building Supervisor.
He was a member of Messiah Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 114.
Mr. Cribb enjoyed the outdoors but his biggest passion was wood working.
He was very well known for his amazing talent in restoring and repairing antique furniture.
Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; two daughters, Wanda C. Hoffmann of Mt. Pleasant and Sandy C. Van Ness of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Matthew R. Hoffmann of Mountain Iron, MN and Morgan M. Van Ness of Salt Lake City, UT; one great grandchild, Blake T. Hoffmann of St. Paul, MN; three sisters, Edna Hickson of Ft. Valley, Ga., Hope Powell (W.A.) of Andrews and Esther Grier (Junior) of Hemingway; two brothers, Cecil Cribb (Glenda) of Georgetown and Marion Cribb (Sara) of Orangeburg; a sister in law, Carolene Cribb of Georgetown; and a number of very special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lena Mae Grier; a brother, Clinton Cribb; three brothers in law, Erby Owens, Doc Grier and Marcus Hickson; and a sister in law, Phyllis Cribb.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Messiah Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky West officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Graham Funeral Home.

Madeline Davis
Madeline Eugenia McNeill Davis, 69, of Milford, Pa. died Tuesday, March 27, 2012, in Milford, Pa.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Dickerson AME Church, with burial following in Greater St. Stephen AME Church Cemetery, Georgetown, S.C.
Mrs. Davis was born August 7, 1942 in Charleston, S.C., to Richard Doctor and Ms. Lillian McNeill.
She attended Archer Elementary School and Burke High School.
Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Martha L. McNeill; her children, LeRoy, Fredina, Linda, Sheryl, and Fred Jr.; his siblings, Clarence, Jacqueline, Sandra, Gwendolyn, Rita, Gloria and Eric; 26 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

I. Harby Moses
Mr. I. Harby Moses, 92, of Sumter, S.C. died Monday, April 2, 2012 at Tidelands Community Hospice in Georgetown, S.C.
Born March 4, 1920, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Perry Moses and Sarah Moses Moses.
Mr. Moses graduated from Edmunds High School, continuing his education at The Citadel where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration.
As the year was 1941, he immediately became a captain in the U.S. Army and spent the next several years in bases around the country as well as Europe training troops and managing ordnance and resources.
In 1946, Mr. Moses was discharged from the service and returned to Sumter where, out of necessity, he became an entrepreneur.
He and a partner tried several ventures, including a pecan shelling company, until Mr. Moses joined a property and casualty insurance business.
In 1951, he was recalled to the Army and served for a year as a military advisor to the Korean Army and later retired as Lt. Colonel.
Mr. Moses was president and CEO of the Home Federal Savings and Loan Association and a partner in Commins-Moses Realtors, (Coldwell Banker).
He owned the I.H. Moses Insurance Agency and was secretary of the Palmetto Mutual Fire Insurance Company.
He and two partners built and managed Savannah Square Apartments on Alice Drive.
In 1982, Home Federal, which relocated to the corner of Calhoun and Washington streets, merged with the South Carolina Federal Savings Bank.
Mr. Moses became the city executive for the offices in Sumter and Manning.
When Mr. Moses received the charter for Home Federal in 1952, the company claimed assets of $100,000.
Thirty years later, during the merger, assets were valued at $50 million.
From 1951 until the early 1980’s, Mr. Moses was a dedicated civic leader, serving on various community boards, as well as president of the Sumter Merchants Association in 1962, president of the Chamber of Commerce in 1965 and a member of city council from 1968 to 1972.
He served on the Sumter County Development Board for three years, the Board of Tuomey Hospital for two years and was a member of Sumter Rotary Club since 1956.
In retirement, he was active with the Sumter County Museum, Covenant Place, Temple Sinai, and the Salvation Army.
He was married for 50 years to the former Harriett Carter Moses of Rock Hill and today has two surviving children, Harby Moses, Jr. and wife Susan of Georgetown and Harriett Moses Hollis, and husband, Rob of Atlanta, GA.; four grandchildren, Henri Hollis, Carter Hollis, Frances Moses and Anna Moses; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Moses Unsworth, who died in 1984.
The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Frank Moses, 742 Mattison Avenue, Sumter.
Private graveside services will be held at the Sumter Jewish Cemetery.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Temple Sinai with Rabbi Dan Sherman officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Mt. Vernon Coffee Club and the Fortnightly Club.

Denise Michalski
Denise Lynn Michalski, 48, loving companion of R. Cameron Forehand Jr. of Georgetown, S.C., passed away Friday, March 30, 2012, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Born on March 30, 1964, in Dunkirk, N.Y., she was a daughter of Richard and Nancy Centner Michalski.
Denise was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dunkirk.
Survivors include her loving companion of 13 years, R. Cameron Forehand Jr. of Georgetown; mother and father, Richard and Nancy Michalski of Dunkirk; a sister, Cheryl Michalski of Lockport, N.Y. ; a brother, Bill Michalski (Amy) of Holdrege, NE; special family members, Marvadine Forehand, Stephen Forehand (Yvette), and Deborah Scott (Wayne), all of Georgetown, Ron C. Forehand III (Michelle) of Conway and Nicholas C. Forehand of Orchard Park, N.Y.; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other special family members.
A Memorial Service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ted Sherrill officiating.
Inurnment was in Dunkirk at a later date.

Herman Nesbit
Herman Nesbit, 68, of Murrells Inlet, S.C. died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at his residence.
Funeral services for Mr. Nesbit were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Wilds Courtyard Chapel.
Burial followed in Morning Glory Cemetery.
Mr. Nesbit was born May 15, 1943 in Georgetown, S.C. to Ezekiel Nesbit and Mrs. Mary Browne Nesbit.
He was educated in the Georgetown County Public School System and worked as a cook.
Survivors include his son and daughter, Ronald Nesbit of Columbia, S.C. and Melissa Nesbit of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and his brothers, Woodrow Nesbit Sr. of Georgetown, S.C. and Leroy Nesbit of Greenville, S.C.

Esther L. O'Herien
Esther L. O'Herien, 72, of Walterboro, S.C. passed away Friday, March 30, 2012, at her daughter's house in Bamberg.
Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2012, at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel with Brother Joseph Bowman officiating.
The family received friends following the service until 8 p.m. on Monday evening in the Harbiston Stateroom of the funeral home.
Esther was the daughter of the late Fredrick Nelson Schingler and the late Florence Elizabeth Prosser Schingler.
She was born June 9, 1939, in Hamilton, N.Y.
She was united in marriage to Alton E. O'Herien on May 24, 1958.
Esther was raised in Oneida, N.Y., moving to South Carolina for the first time in 1986, where she lived in Goose Creek, Georgetown and Conway.
She then moved to Wilmington, N.C. and then finally settled in Walterboro.
She devoted her life to her family.
Esther loved to crochet. She made afghans for each of her children and several of her grandchildren.
She loved to pick berries of all kinds and make jams and desserts with them.
She was especially proud that she was able to return to school and earn her diploma in 1981 after having left school in the eighth grade.
Esther was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
She loved her spiritual brothers and sisters and always greeted them with a kiss.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Alton E. O'Herien, Sr.; 11 children and their spouses, Jean (Mark) O'Connor of Walterboro, Sharlene (Daniel) Morgan of Oneida, N.Y., Michael (Beth) O'Herien of Oneida, N.Y., Patrick (Laurie) of Bamberg, S.C., Melinda (William) Geathers of Georgetown, S.C., Timothy O'Herien (Sharon Trit) of Vero Beach, Fla., Maureen (Corey) Boshart of Rome, N.Y., Rhonda (David) Sauls of Walterboro, S.C., James (Kristen) O'Herien of Rome, N.Y., Camille (Todd) Fletcher of Bamberg, S.C., and Alton O'Herien, Jr. of Bamberg, S.C.; 29 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Evelyn Janes of Verona, N.Y., Merilyn Nataro of Phoenix, Ariz., and Camille JoAnn Fox of Oneida, N.Y.; one bother-in-law Ronald O'Herien of Oneida, N.Y.; one sister-in-law Martha Coffin of Lothian, Md.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Edith Jean Schingler and a grandchild Ebony Sha-dea Gagum.
Flowers were accepted but for those who wish, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Ben Martin Wilson Jr., 62, of Columbia, S.C. died Monday, April 2, 2012.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Elmwood Cemetery, 1601 Highmarket Street, Georgetown, S.C.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the home of his son.

Mr. Wilson was born on June 27, 1949 in Georgetown, he was a son of Ben Martin “Benny” and Virginia Barrineau Wilson.
Ben graduated from Batesburg-Leesville High School where he was President of the student body and from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Finance.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield and retired as an Auditor from Colonial Life & Accident.
Ben was an avid Gamecock fan, enjoyed eating Shealy’s BBQ and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a loving father and grandfather and is survived by his son, of whom he was very proud, Ben Martin “Marty” Wilson (Chappell) of Columbia; grandchildren, Sara Grace and Benjamin Wilson, both of Columbia and a niece, Linda Rigole of Newberry.
He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Wilson Lester of Columbia.

Helen J. Wojciechoski
Helen J. Wojciechoski, 93, of Georgetown, S.C. died Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Georgetown Healthcare Nursing Home.
Born in Chester, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine Foremny.
She was a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church.
