Charles Joley II
 
Charles L. Joley II, age 80, of Pawleys Island, S.C. died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at his home.
Born in Pana, Ill., he was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Ricketts Joley. 
Dr. Joley was a lifelong educator, beginning as an agricultural education teacher in Toulon, Ill. 
He earned three degrees, including his doctoral degree, at the University of Illinois. 
He was a leader in vocational education services at Eastern Illinois University, and served there as Dean of the College of Education and Allied Professions for 25 years. 
He provided statewide leadership in education as well.
Chuck Joley had an impact on the people who were fortunate to know him. 
His quick wit would first bring a chuckle, and soon win over the hearts of those he met. 
He had a zest for life, and a wide range of interests. An avid life-long learner and reader, he became an expert on the Civil War. 
He loved music and playing the piano.  His grandchildren enjoy music, and were inspired to  play the piano because of him. 
He and his wife, Gail, enjoyed travel to many parts of the world, especially to France. 
Boating, sailing, and fishing were other interests. 
He cherished his Pana roots, and his classmates who have known him for over 60 years. 
He was a member of the Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church.
Most of all, he loved and relished time with his family, and with friends, enjoying lively conversation, great food and its preparation,  and memorable times together.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Joley of Pawleys Island; sons, Charles L. Joley III (Lisa) of Belleville, Ill., David S. Joley of St. Clair Shores, MI; Stepsons, David Wells (Sonia) of Monroe, CT, Bill Huffman (Laura) of Charlotte, NC; stepdaughter, Dina Wells of Pawleys Island, SC; grandchildren, Hailey Crowton-Joley, Charles L. Joley IV, Nicolas Wells, Oliver Wells, Carter Huffman, and several nieces and nephews. 
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathryn Joley, and sisters, Marguerite Ramseur and Norma Anderson.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church with Reverend Frank Holsclaw officiating. 
Burial will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church cemetery. 
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Goldfinch Funeral Home, Litchfield-Pawleys Chapel, 202 Hinnant Lane,  Pawleys Island.
