Alice L. Buckheit
Alice L. Buckheit of Murrells Inlet died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2008 in St. Andrews Church, Sag Harbor, N.Y. Burial will follow at The Veterans Administration National Cemetery, Calverton, N.Y. Yardley and Pino Funeral Home of Sag Harbor, N.Y., is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 29, 1923, a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Hassler Cody.
Mrs. Buckheit was an Army Cadet nurse at Bellevue Hospital, New York, N.Y., during World War II. She was a retired nurse, Union No. 1199.
She resided at Garden Manor Village, Murrells Inlet for the past year and was a member of St. Michael's Church, Garden City Beach.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. Buckheit; brother, Joseph Cody; sisters, Ann O'Connor, Eleanor Modie, and Mary O'Neill.
Survivors include: four sons, Bruce (Patricia), Daniel, Francis, and John (Laura); four daughters, Barbara Murray (Robert), Kathleen Agnitsch (John), Mariann Megna (Martin), and Theresa Speck; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister Katherine D'Imperio.

Melvena Burney
Melvena Burney, 84, of the Burgess community, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008.

Curtis J. Daggett
Curtis Joel Daggett, 74, of Murrells Inlet, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008 in Charleston, at the Medical University of South Carolina.
The family received friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at Underwood Funeral Home where a funeral procession formed at 11 a.m. to Oakdale Cemetery. Graveside services with military honors took place at the cemetery.

Mr. Daggett was a school bus driver for Horry County schools in Myrtle Beach, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Daggett is survived by his wife, Char A. Ferris Daggett.

Antonio DeGaetano
Antonio DeGaetano, 90, of Surfside Beach, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at his residence.

Mr. DeGaetano was born in New York, N.Y., a son of the late Antonio and Maria DeGaetano.
He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. Mr. DeGaetano was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Anthony DeGaetano (Susan) of Surfside Beach and Steven DeGaetano (Jeannie) of Staten Island, N.Y.; one daughter, Sandra O'Connor (John) of Surfside Beach; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mamie C. Freeland
Mamie Calhoun Freeland, 90, of Myrtle Beach, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008 at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008 in Surfside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Wachter and the Rev. Kim Eanef officiating. Mrs. Freeland was born in Conway, a daughter of the late James and Julia Mae Calhoun. Mrs. Freeland taught in numerous schools in the area and retired from Woodland Park Elementary School in 1976. She and her husband Ralph were charter members of Surfside United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Freeland; daughter, Julia Frances Freeland of Surfside Beach; her brothers and sisters, Robert Calhoun, James Calhoun Jr., Thurman Calhoun, Julia Mae Hughes, Lila Glasgow, Edna Small, Roberta Thompson, Raymond Calhoun, Chloe Dannelly, and Conrad Calhoun.
Survivors include: her daughter, Jennifer Freeland Williams of Myrtle Beach; granddaughter, Tracy Y. Williams of Wilmington, N.C.; grandson, Jeffrey R. Williams of Myrtle Beach; sister and brother-in-law, Lucille C. and Wendell E. Hinson of DeBordieu.

William V. Harris
William Vincent Harris, 85, of Surfside Beach, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008.

Mr. Harris was born in New York, N.Y., a son of the late William and Mary Harris.
He was a U.S. Ninth Air Force veteran of World War II. Mr. Harris was a member of the N.Y. Police Department for 30 years. He was a member of the N.Y. Police Benevolent Association.
Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his son, William V. Harris Jr. and a sister, Irene Kieltyka.
Survivors include: his wife of 58 years, Eleanor Harris of Surfside Beach; son, Timothy John Harris (Patricia); daughters, Patricia Harris Freidman (Paul) and Elizabeth Harris Abrahamson (Thomas) all of Pearl River, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, William V. Harris IV, Tracey Harris, Kelley Harris, Matthew Harris, Mellisa Harris, Kimberly Friedman, Christine Harris, Rebecca Abrahamson and Thomas Abrahamson; two great-grandchildren, Steven Harris and Cody Jae Eichner; one sister, Jaenne Carney; and two nephews, John and Thomas Sheeran.
Jerry W. Jones
Jerry Windle Jones, 63, of Shallotte, N.C., died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008 in the New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008 in the Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Murphy and the Rev. Todd Underwood officiating. Entombment followed in a private estate mausoleum in the Brunswick Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Jones was born May 11, 1945 in Conway to Allene Rowell Jones and the late Windle Wilson Jones. He moved to Shallotte, N.C. in 1968 to work at Shallotte Lumber Company, and remained at their location for 33 years.
He served on the Shallotte Board of Alderman from 1981 until 1985. He served as Mayor from 1985 until 1990, and had another run as Shallotte Alderman from 2003 until 2007. He served on the Board of Commissioners from 1990 until 1996, as chairman from 1994 until 1996, and was on the Brunswick County Economic Development Commission Board from 2000 until 2008. In their earlier years, he had been active with the West Brunswick Booster Club, a Volunteer Fireman with the Shallotte Fire Department, and was past president of the Brunswick County Little League Baseball Association for five years.
Surviving, in addition to his mother of Myrtle Beach are: his wife of 42 years, Barbara Skipper Jones of the home; two sons, Mark Jones (Phyllis) of Shallotte, N.C. and Kyle Jones (Lisa) of Oak Island, N.C.; a granddaughter, Chloe Reyde Jones; one brother, Russell Wayne Jones of Pawleys Island; and three sisters, Sara Stroud of Conway, Vivian Quick of Conway, and Lynda Soles of Whiteville, N.C.

Ruby B. McCormick
Ruby Bellamy McCormick, 94, of Conway died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008 at Conway Manor.

Mrs. McCormick was born Oct. 30, 1914 in Horry County, a daughter of the late Purvis O. Bellamy and the late Nancy Jane Cox Bellamy. She was a homemaker and the wife of the late Phillip Thomas McCormick. Mrs. McCormick was a member of the Kingston Baptist Church and was predeceased by one son, Thomas Earl McCormick; three sisters, Letha Hardee, Carrie Watts, and Maggie Cox; and one brother, Homer Bellamy.
Survivors include: six children, Edward Ray McCormick (Carol) of Virginia, Charles Dwayne McCormick (Susie) of Summerville, Wilma Seymour Harrelson (Levern) of Tabor City, N.C., Ledena Lawrimore (J.R.) of Surfside Beach, Phyllis Ann Martin (Billy), and Sarah Linda Boyd (the Rev. D.J. Boyd), all of Conway; two sisters, Willa Mae Scott of Hemingway, and Myrtle Caines of Dillon; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
Katie F. Moore
Katie Willard Fenegan Moore, 91, of Little River, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008 in Lee Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008 in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wilmington, N.C.

She was born Jan. 9, 1917, in Horry County to Lucian D. Willard and Ora Causey Willard.
She graduated from Mullins School of Nursing in 1940 and worked as a Registered Nurse in Wilmington, N.C. for several doctors.
She lived in Wilmington, N.C., North Myrtle Beach, and Andrews until 2006, when she went to Winston-Salem, N.C., to live with both of her children.
She was a member of the Myrtle Beach Seventh Day Adventist Church and attended Ardmore United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reedy W. Fenegan in 1972; and her husband, Eugene B. Moore in 2006.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Claudine Sessons, Elva Suggs, and Elberta Inman, and brothers, L.D. Willard Jr., Walter Willard, Paul Willard, and Yvonne Willard.
Surviving are: one son, R. Willard Fenegan (Faye) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one daughter, Mitzie Fenegan Kepley (Andy) of Lewisville, N.C.; her grandchildren of her home, Russell Andrew Kepley, Lindsey Kepley Cox (Seth); and their daughter, Mackinzie Elizabeth Cox; her stepchildren, Myrtle Wiggins, Teresa Moore, Joyce Blake, and Donnie Moore, all of Andrews; her sisters, Mary Charles Mallery, of Little River, Fronnie Hucks and Lydia Clardy, both of Socastee, Muriel Johnson of Fayetteville, N.C., and Jackie Chandler of Colorado; and two brothers, Hope Willard of Tabor City, N.C., and Starlin Willard of Little River.

James Vick
James "Jimmy" Vick, 73, of Harkers Island and Murrells Inlet, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at home.
Funeral service was held Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008 in Refuge Fellowship Church with the Rev. Manley B. Rose Jr. officiating. Interment was at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Munden Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. of Morehead City was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Vick served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Refuge Fellowship Church, and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his son, Brian Vick; and brothers, I.M. Vick Jr., and Charles Vick.
He is survived by: his wife, Glenda H. Vick; one daughter, Diane Smith (Chris) of Staten Island, N.Y.; six sisters, Barbara Vick of Pawleys Island, Pearl Young (George) and Shirley Prescott, all of Charleston, Hazel Frick (Dave) of Antioch, Calif., Annette Beebe (Rick) of Birmingham, Ala., and Patsy Stevenson of Myrtle Beach; two brothers, Billy Vick (Jackie) of Murrells Inlet, and Jack H. Vick (Judy) of Charleston; two grandchildren, Nicholas Tyler Smith and Lauren Grace Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Iris C. Wilson
Iris Leota Crenshaw Wilson, 85, of Myrtle Beach, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 at Tidelands Community Hospice House in Georgetown.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008 in Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, N.C., with the Rev. Dr. Tom Cabaniss officiating. Whitley's Funeral Home of Kannapolis, N.C., is in charge of arrangements.
She was born April 22, 1923 in Charlotte, N.C. Mrs. Wilson was the daughter of Tishia Riggs Crenshaw and Roy Edward Crenshaw.
She grew up in Kannapolis, N.C. and was a 1940 graduate of Cannon High School.
Mrs. Wilson moved from Kannapolis, N.C., after marrying in 1945. Her husband was in the U.S. Air Force and she lived in Florida, England, California, and Nebraska as well as South Carolina.
Mrs. Wilson first came to Myrtle Beach in 1956, when her husband was the first airman to arrive at the new Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. She moved to Myrtle Beach to stay when her husband retired from the military in 1963.
Mrs. Wilson was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach.
After her children were grown, she enjoyed a number of jobs including; telephone operator, a sales clerk at the old Barefoot Traders and The Ample Lady store, a restaurant hostess, and a hotel clerk. Mrs. Wilson enjoyed traveling until her health failed. She was able to travel in China shortly after the country was opened to tourists. She also traveled in Europe and saw much of America including Alaska and Hawaii.
Mrs. Wilson was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Wilson; a brother, Roy "Sonny" Crenshaw; and a sister, Betty Sue Crenshaw Kluttz.
She is survived by her three children, Paula Zane Wilson of Georgetown, Reik Alexander Wilson of Myrtle Beach, and Robert Cecil Wilson Jr. of Charleston.
