Murrells Inlet may not be known for its high fashion, but now there is a new business nearby that may help to change that.

Sisters Rachel Bourne Shaw and Mary Margaret Bourne, co-owners of a new boutique in Murrells Inlet called Socialite, are bringing contemporary ladies' fashions to Murrells Inlet.

"We are focused on locals and we have a lot of the latest lines in ladies contemporary clothing," said Shaw, a Clemson University graduate with a degree in marketing. "There is nothing like this in the Murrells Inlet community."

Bourne, a rising senior at Coastal Carolina University majoring in business management, adds that the variety of clothing and accessories they carry will ensure that their customers are wearing unique items.

"We are trying to promote original style so that you don't see your clothes on someone else," she said.

They are welcoming the public into the shop -- located at 3328 Hwy. 17 Business in the Inlet Crossing Shopping Center -- today and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., for their grand opening celebration. Starting next week, they will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

With clothing lines including French Connection, BCB Generation, BCBG Swimwear, Karlie Clothes, dress lines like Jenny Han and Molly New York Kasil, they also carry jean lines from Peoples Liberation and soon William Rast Jeans (Justin Timberlake's line of jeans).

"Those are really hot right now, so we are really excited about that," said Shaw. "We do have some younger contemporary lines, but we also have some lines that are more sophisticated, too."

She adds that they also have two "really fun" handbag lines. One is called Big Buddha, and another is called Petico. They also have jewelry by David Aubrey and others.

"I just feel like we have lot of unique and original accessories as far as the jewelry lines we are carrying," Shaw said.

She states that Socialite will strive to have reasonable prices for their brand-name clothing and accessories.

"In general, we are trying to stay more middle-of-the-road with our price point," Shaw said. "We are definitely not extravagantly priced."

For more information about Socialite, call the store at 651-2317 or e-mail socialite.mi@gmail.com. Anyone who shops at the store today and Saturday will receive 10 percent off their first item.
