Georgetown City Council will decide Thursday whether to approve the contract that has been crafted for Chris Carter who has been offered the city administrator’s position.
According to the draft contract, Carter — currently the administrator in Williston, S.C. — will begin working in Georgetown on Feb. 7.
The contract is for three years and states Carter will be paid $105,000 annually.
“Consideration shall be given on an annual basis to increase compensation,” the document states.
If Carter is terminated before the expiration of the contract, he will receive six months compensation, including salary and accumulated annual leave plus continuation of all benefits.
Carter will receive the same dental, life and medical insurance as other city workers and will begin with 30 days worth of annual leave time.
He will also be furnished with an automobile and the city is paying his relocation expenses to Georgetown.
Mayor Jack Scoville said he expects council will approve the contract.
Carter has been in Williston since December 2010. Before that he was the North Wilkesboro, N.C. town manager for six years.
Carter’s additional professional experience includes serving as interim finance director, planner and supervisor in Sylva, N.C. He also worked as adjunct professor of political science at the Spartanburg Community College.
He graduated from UNC Greensboro and later received a master’s degree in public administration from Appalachian State.
His wife Joan is a middle school teacher in Flat Rock, N.C. She plans to finish the school year then relocate to Georgetown this summer.
