A Georgetown man who admitted to killing his ex-girlfriend and setting her West End home on fire will spend the next three decades in prison.
Joseph Fitzgerald Kinloch of Estherville Road, Georgetown, entered a guilty plea to charges of murder and arson in General Sessions Court.
His court-appointed attorney, Eric Fox, said Kinloch was sentenced to 30 years for the murder of 52-year-old Deloris Green who was found in her charred Front Street home in June, 2008.
Kinloch also received a 25 year sentence for the arson charge but the two sentences will run at the same time.
The body of Green was found by firefighters about 15 minutes after they arrived to extinguish the blaze.
When firefighters arrived at the burning home the front door and her bedroom door were both locked.
Green, who normally lived with a friend, was home alone when the fire broke out.
It was determined early in the investigation Green died from blunt force trauma, not from the fire.
Fox said the hearing was “very emotional” as four of Green’s family members took the stand expressing their love for her.
In the days after the murder, Albertha Grate, Green's aunt, told the Georgetown Times Green was a fun-loving person who never met a stranger.
