Blake Hurston set a school record Friday in his last home game for Lowcountry Prep of Pawleys Island.

In a nail-biter of a game, Hurston scored 44 points, an all-time school record.

He and his teammates faced off James Island Christian in regular play before losing in overtime, 95-81.

When the game went into overtime, though, coach Kacy Gunter said, "about half our guys fouled out." That included Hurston with about a minute left on the clock.

Hurston, a senior, has played since ninth graded. He shot seven 3-pointers, and made 21 points in the fourth quarter.

"It was like a movie or something," Gunter said.

Unique Gardner added 20 points, with six 3-points, and 11 points in the last period.

Other Lowcountry Prep scorers were David Culliton 6; Cary Grabeman 9; Jesse Marshall 2.

Alex Myers, also a senior, was a starter in his last home game.

"Dwight, David, Jesse and Cary all fouled out. We really couldn't hang with them in overtime, even though we had a tremendous effort," Gunter said.

Scorers for James Island Christian were Jaquan Scott 7; Trevor Shull 37; Daniel Brown 6; Johnny Jones 32; Daniel Singleton 2; and Griffin Reader 11.

James Island scored 19 points in each of the first three quarters, while Lowcountry had 17 and 13 in the first half, followed by 13. In the final quarter Lowcountry really came back with 35 points to 21 for James Island, tying the game at 78 points.

"Blake had a 3-point shot in the final moments of regular play to win, but it hit the rim," Gunter said.

"It was a really good last home game for the guys. I'm really proud of them."

Blake....I couldn't be more proud of you, not just because of your basketball skills, but because of your character. Great job!
