Re: John Brock
This letter will be my last re: Mr. [John] Brock’s response to my letter dated Feb. 3, 2012.
Mr. Brock says that I “got personal” with him. Well, gosh, I hope I didn't hurt his little feelings. No, I don't know what transpired in his classroom, but that doesn't mean my opinion isn't valid. Mr. Brock said it himself, “… editorial columns are opinion pieces and not news.” As usual the self-righteous right want it both ways.
As far as opinions and news are concerned, Mr. Brock forgot to talk about the lack of facts supporting his previous piece. For example, “lefties are for open borders.” Ridiculous. $1.50/gal. gas. Preposterous. Gay marriage is “deviant.” Really?
All of Mr. Brock’s ideas and drivel are driven by the same engine … religion.
I think it interesting that the far right wants to keep religion in politics instead of maintaining a firm separation of church and state. I think it even more interesting that if Jesus were alive today, he would be considered, “a left wing zealot.” It once again shows that the far right are hypocrites, and continuously talk out of both sides of their mouths.

Right to carry
It seems to me and to the others with whom I have discussed it, the woman whose gun went off in her purse, hitting someone near her, should at the very least lose her right to "carry." This kind of negligence is certainly criminal and potentially disastrous to an innocent bystander! Our laws should protect the public from such an "accident."
I would like to know if she is still being allowed to walk around with a gun in her purse.

March for Babies
Thank you so much for including the 2012 Georgetown County March for Babies Kickoff information in your recent publication. I would like to clarify some information about March for Babies. We are currently looking for individuals, teams and corporate partners to help us with our fundraising efforts in Georgetown County.
Participants can fundraise in many ways, such as going online to marchforbabies.org to start or join a team; the old fashioned way of asking for donations from co-workers, family, friends, etc.; or by being creative and coming up with a fundraiser that they would like to do.
Our March for Babies Day will take place on Saturday, April 21st at East Bay Park in Georgetown. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will start at 9 a.m. The walk is approximately 3 1/2 miles through the beautiful Georgetown residential area and Front Street and back to East Bay Park for food, fun and fellowship.
We would like to encourage anyone who is interested in participating or volunteering to contact me at the March of Dimes office at 843-438-1113.

In defense of Mr. Brock
Mr. [John] Brock, keep up the good work. I’m sure you have fended off attack dogs before and will continue to do so; however, when a person does a good job, he or she should be told as much.
Recently, a couple of writers in the February 8, 2012 edition of this newspaper expressed disagreement with your ideas in such a manner that I thought they may be preparing to write a how-to book on how to carry out a campaign of inquisition against the conservative heretics. One of these writers asserts early on that “Before you … misidentify me as a leftist liberal … I am not.” What a feeble attempt to tell the reader in advance how to think about what he has written. In referring to the second writer, I will try my best to label him using his real name.
The “Liberal? Not me!” writer complains about religious convictions possibly entering into political discussion. Does his concern require that the pagans keep their religion out of the discussion (Is that an appropriate question Mr. Watkins?)?
1. The sieve that is the U.S.-Mexico border would be closed immediately if the liberals wanted it that way (RE: Keystone Pipeline). Instead, this President is too busy persecuting a church body whose rights are being trampled on by Obama Care legislation. Mr. Brock’s world population reference is purely to show self-contradiction in the liberal argument.
2. When free market rules are in place for the sale of anything (including oil) and unfettered by excessive government regulation, the prices go down. If the market was flooded with the supply of oil that America has in the ground, the price of gasoline would go down. Want to speculate on why that isn’t happening? Tomorrow morning, world markets will react to the supply and demand projections over the next several months, not to the expected depletion date of fossil fuels. We are ridiculously behind where we should be in the use of nuclear power as a source of domestic energy because the liberal cry babies have had their way for so long. So far, wind and solar power development have produced more votes for politicians than they have kilowatts for hard-working Americans. The term “Green” would be most appropriately defined in terms describing the uncontrolled flight of taxpayer money from the U.S. Treasury. A great approach, in my humble opinion, to creating alternative energy sources would be for those who worship at that altar to pool their resources and invest the time and effort to produce a viable product.
Mr. “Liberal? Not me!” is also ignoring the need for energy independence from foreign suppliers. Liberals of every stripe try to avoid that subject.
3. Now, let’s get to a really serious subject. Some of you will not just disagree with me on this but may even foam at the mouth. A family starts out as a husband and a wife who, if they so choose, become father and mother raising their children to become proper members of society (Do you care to chime in on this Mr. Watkins?). While this model is often altered in our society, the alteration has no room for homosexual participation. Those who have a problem with this should take it up with the Holy Trinity. The abuse of children is an abominable thing and draws special attention when it occurs at the hands of those who should be their protectors. What the notorious priests have done to children is/was against the law. Well, Mr. “Liberal? Not me!”, we all abhor such violation of the law, so what is your point other than to whine “your deviants are worse than my deviants?”
4. It is easy for someone to “complain about something they don’t believe in” – have you ever heard of atheism? Our children should be taught about the Judeo-Christian ethics, attitude, beliefs, etc. that produced the greatest nation mankind has ever known. I’m not referring to religious teaching. I am referring to the characteristics of the 18th century Americans who got this country started by doing the really hard work. If I am wrong here, produce a list of the religions that were represented by the signatories of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, and more importantly the soldiers in the field who really won our independence.
As for the name calling, we once again hear the cry baby approach of, ”they’re doing it too.”
As for the accuracy of the name calling, Hussein Obama, in most cases, is proving his critics right.
I don’t know Mr. Brock except through his contributions to this newspaper, but he appears to be an honorable man who loves his country and is saddened by what may be its decline.
