Hurricane Sandy is a Category 1 hurricane and there is a Tropical Storm Warning for Horry and Georgetown Counties. Coastal flooding is possible in Garden City, Murrells Inlet, and in low-lying areas around Winyah Bay near the City of Georgetown.
Along the immediate coast. winds may be capable of causing damage to unanchored mobile homes, porches, carports and awnings as well as some shingles blown from roofs. Large branches may break off trees and shallow-rooted and diseased trees may blow over which could lead to isolated to widespread power outages. The winds tonight will make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Sustained winds of 30-40 mph can be expected. Strong and numerous rip tides are expected through Sunday.
We will continue with updates as the storm passes off our coast.
