Georgetown losing a landmark

Article Content:

A Georgetown landmark, Lands End restaurant, is closing its doors at the end of the week.
The buzz about the closing began spreading throughout the area Saturday night. That’s when owner Mike Bryant reportedly told the employees about the decision.
The restaurant — which overlooks the Winyah Bay has been a part of the local landscape for decades — will cease operations this Sunday.
Not only has the restaurant been a favorite for locals and visitors, it is also a commonly-used meeting place.
The Georgetown County Lunchtime Rotary meets there each Tuesday.
According to an email, Rotary President Randy Dozier was informed today about the closing.
“Mike Bryant, owner of Lands End, has contacted Randy Dozier and informed him that Lands End will be closing its doors at the end of this week,” the email states. “This means we no longer have a meeting place.”
The email asks Rotarians to offer suggestions on where the group should relocate.
The news of closing of Lands End comes on the heels of the closing of Domino’s Pizza in Georgetown, although company officials say they plan to reopen Domino’s in the near future under new management.

Lands end Closing : 10/31/2009
I do hope for Mr. Tamsburg sake, His property taxes do not keep going up. Good luck Mr. Tamsburg, and to the lands end crew,I'll miss your crab pie. We need to get someone in office that will take care of the people that have made georgetown what it used to be, and start holding these people accountable for the economy. I heard on the Myrtle Beach news about the closing of the Lands End and about the Opening of the Boeing plant going to North Charleston, someone from Horry County was questioning why boeing was going to Charleston. ANSWER they have railroads and a port. I'm I wrong but I thought Georgetown had both.

Mike, you fought the good fight, but you cannot remain open when Georgetown is closing all doors to the economy. You have always been a hard worker and looked out for your employees. Sending love to you and your family. We love you.

Another closing in Georgetown, is there any hope for the town? I suspect there will be another restaurant in Lands End's place, but the economic situation in Georgetown is still going to be dismal until someone with vision and passion is elected as Mayor and elected on City Council.

My family and I have always loved going to Lands End. With the great hospitality and great food, just can't believe they are closing. I was there just last weekend with GHS Class of '89 and we all enjoyed the time there. We will gratly miss Lands End!!

What a shame! Another one bites the dust! Maybe at the end of the year the delegates should sponsor a bill to rename Georgetown to "Ghosttown". It's the town's fault that nothing stays open! No one seems to understand, Bible Belt or not, most people like to relax on Sunday, and tourists traveling through on their way home or on vacation, usually do it on a Sunday. But with no restaurants open for them to stop and eat at, they keep going until they either arrive in Pawley's or Charleston to have a decent meal. The billboards tell the tourists to visit historic Georgetown, but they can't if the town is shut down on Sundays! And the same goes with the businesses in this town! No one is open, so the average citizen has to drive for an hour or so to get what they need for a weekend project! You can't buy a new toilet at Wal-Mart! Georgetown needs to use it's brain before people start drifting away to the more accessable areas for things they need.

Wow. I hate to read that it's closing. Me and family members have had many memorable after-church dinners there. The chef was extraordinary - he beats many 5 star places in my city. The service was always great. I will miss it.
