Knights of Columbus hosting soccer challenge
The Pawleys Island Knight of Columbus are initiating a new program for local youth participation.
The first K of C Soccer Challenge is scheduled for Sept. 30 at Lowcountry Prep School at 300 Blue Stem Drive in Pawleys Island.
This event will be open to boys and girls ages 10 through 14 with differing eligibility standards. Winners will move on to district, regional and state events.
The event will begin at 2 p.m. Participants should arrive 30 minutes before.
Event participants may obtain applications at Precious Blood of Christ Parish Life Center at 1633 Waverly Road in Pawleys Island.
Applications include a required parental consent. Any children registering on the day of the event must ensure the presence of a parent or legal guardian to sign required waivers. Gatorade and fruit will be available for participants.
Participants in the soccer challenge event will be asked to demonstrate the most basic of soccer skills, the penalty kick. Each player will be allowed 15 shots at the goal from the penalty line. Goals will be divided into a series of five scoring zones, with points awarded depending upon the area of the scoring zones through which the ball passes.
Council championships are to be held in September with the highest scorers in each group moving to District championships in October. A series of regional championships are scheduled to be held in October and November. State championships are scheduled to be held in November.
