Officials with Environmental Health in Georgetown will be passing out fliers in the area around Pennyroyal Road around 1 p.m. today.
One case of a rabid animal in Georgetown County has been confirmed Pennyroyal Road.
Another cat that bit a Litchfield resident is now being tested for signs of rabies.
At least one girl, Alexis Bone, is being treated for the illness after she was bit by a rabid cat.
Bone lives on Pennyroyal Road and was bitten while playing in her backyard Thursday afternoon, said her mother, Crystal Bone.
The cat that bit her daughter died after biting her daughter.
Alexis said she had to strike the cat to make it release its jaws from her hand.
Jay Cox, director of environmental services for the Georgetown office of DHEC, said
it is the first case of a rabid domestic animal in quite some time, Cox said.
Residents should go to the emergency room immediately if they believe they have come in contact with a rabid animal, said Neal Johnson with the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office.
