The Georgetown County School District and the Georgetown High School Athletic Department are proud to announce the formation of a competitive swim team for students in grades 7-12 beginning in the 2012-2013 school year.
The goals of the GHS swim team will be to: Have Fun, Swim Hard & Improve our Conditioning, Drill Hard & Improve our Strokes, Practice Great Sportsmanship, Make Friends, and Do the Best of Which We are Capable! The Swim Team consists of a girls and boys team which will practice together.
This team will swim against other AAA teams in the region. This fall sport will enable student athletes to build upon and grow their swimming abilities as well as develop a sense of unity and camaraderie for their school and the sport.
An athlete must have basic swimming skills. This is a competitive swim team. GHS has partnered with the Georgetown County YMCA to provide pool time and be a host site for meets.
This connection will also encourage swimmers who are already swimming with the YMCA Wahoos to carry their love of swimming over to their high school.
The Georgetown County YMCA has a competitive swim league and participation in their year round program or their summer swim program will be highly encouraged.
All students in good standing, academically and behaviorally, are invited to come to an interest meeting to learn more about this historic opportunity, which will be held for parents and students at the end of March.
The team will be co-coached by Mary Wall and Amy Condon. Please contact Mike Ward, Athletic Director for Georgetown High School at 546-8516 for further information.
