Georgetown High senior Kinard Gadsden-Gilliard signed to continue his education and basketball career with Roane State (TN) Community College on Wednesday.

During his career at Georgetown, Gadsden-Gilliard was twice named to the Class AAA All-State team and was a two-time Region Player of the Year.

He averaged 22 points and 14 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs during the 2008-09 season.

Gadsden-Gilliard will redshirt his first year at Roane State. Upon graduation, he will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Roane State is coached by Randy Nesbit, a former coach at the Citadel.

“They made me a great offer,” Gadsden-Gilliard said. “That coach Nesbit was willing to do that shows how much he wanted me to be a part of his program and how much he cares about me as a
person. Having three years of eligibility left will be a big advantage for me.”

Someone at The Times need to write an article about this. You have a 6'6" 235 man-child with tremendous talent being looked at by UGA, USC, Clemson, Duke, and Tennessee. A good prep school makes him an offer and he chooses to stay in Georgetown? Are you kidding me? And that decision lands him at Roane State Community College. Wow... I'm shocked. So basically football (the sport he was being mostly recruited for and would probably be best at) is probably over for this kid. I personally wonder what was up with his grades because back in February I read he had signed with South Carolina State. Either way, I hope those coaches in Georgetown got what they wanted out the KGG. I can only pray that KGG does well in the class room and basketball. But those who are closest to him, has done him a great disservice. And those coaches are just moving on to the next big promise in Georgetown County. I only hope KGG sees that and learn to work hard and live life for himself. Because a lot of people he trusted have failed him.

Congrats to you Kinard I wish you well. I must say I agree with everything the gentleman said above but let’s not forget about the football program and the recreational program there in Georgetown, which are all suppose to be there for the kids but aren’t doing their part. Everyone is always talking about how great Coach Smith was, which he was, but I think they (anyone involved with the kids and their future) should honor Coach Smith and take a page out of his book and help these student athletes become the best they can be not only on their playing fields but also as productive adults.
