Erika Smith’s RBI single in the seventh inning was the difference as Crescent won the Class AA softball championship with a 3-2 decision at Waccamaw on Wednesday. With the game tied 2-2, Kelsey Young led off the seventh inning for the Tigers (30-2) with a single and, with two outs, Smith lined a base hit into left to bring home Young and the state title – Crescent had one Game 1 of the best-of-three series 2-0 on Monday. Nikki Legg led Waccamaw’s offense, finishing 2-for-3 and scoring both of the Warriors runs. Melaina Moore added two hits and drove in one. Legg started the fourth inning with a double and crossed the plate following Moore’s double to give the Warriors (30-3) a 1-0 advantage. Crescent would pick up two runs in its half of the fifth, but Waccamaw rallied to tie the game in the sixth. Legg reached on a single, moved to third on a base hit from Ashley Czechner and crossed the plate following a Tigers error. Kelsey Davis went the distance for Crescent in the win, striking out seven.
