Crescent defeats Waccamaw 2-0

Kelsey Smith struck out seven and allowed three hits to lead the Crescent High softball team past Waccamaw 2-0 in the first game of the best-of-three Class AA state championship series on Monday. Kelsey Young had an RBI single in the first inning to give Crescent its first run and JeRita Adger singled and scored following an error to give the Tigers their final run in the fifth. Waccamaw (30-2) had a couple of scoring opportunities, stranding a runner at third base in the third inning and putting two on with two outs in the seventh, but Crescent was able to escape both times. Ashley Czechner pitched all seven innings for Waccamaw, striking out eight and allowing five hits. Czechner also had two hits on the evening to lead the Warriors at the plate. Waccamaw will host the second game of the series on Wednesday night.
