I am over being taken for granted!
Ok, ok, who am I kidding? I am somebody’s mother. It’s so hard as a mom not to feel taken for granted and taken advantage of.
After all, I am responsible for the welfare of four kids!
The problem is, how often does my three year old say “Thanks mom, for making sure I have clean clothes"? Never!
If I am going to be really honest, it hurts my feelings when I have made dinner, I sit it down in front of them and everyone says “gross.”
The kids don’t mean to be hurtful, but it is.
I don’t think moms are willing to admit that our kids can hurt our feelings.
They are human and so are we, so it only stands to reason that this would happen.
What I’m guilty of, is not saying to my kids “I know you may not like this, but mommy worked really hard on it, and it makes me a bit sad when you say ‘gross’.”
Not to make them feel bad, but to make them aware of the feelings of others around them.
I want them to be tuned in to other’s feelings. And if I don’t teach them, who will?
Now, my kids are not the only ones who take me for granted, because let’s be honest, I’m surrounded by people who are also human.
Eric, my family, and even my friends on occasion have taken me for granted, and I try to either say something or look at the context.
But even still, it is hurtful to be taken for granted.
Even though I know those I love would not do it on purpose, it still hurts.
I hate the attitude or hearing “Oh, don’t worry Erin will do it.”
Or in some cases, “Mom will do it!”
What we as moms, friends and wives need, is a simple “thank you” (although a grand gesture would be great!) and “I couldn’t do this without you.”
Make sure you thank those you love today, because even though you could probably do life without them, would you want to?
If the answer is no, thank them often!
