John M. Burbage, representing the owners of Harborwalk Marina, says a story in the May 5 edition of the Georgetown Times contained incorrect information regarding negotiations between him and Georgetown City Administrator Steve Thomas over the installation of a fire hydrant on the south side of Front Street.
Burbage says he and Thomas did not agree at any time that the city and the marina "share equally in the cost of the hydrant," as reported in a quote by city Fire Marshal Bill Johnson.
The verbal agreement was that a new hydrant and installation of water pipes under Front Street to the city's main water line (for an estimated $15,000) should be paid on a pro-rata basis among the potential users of the hydrant.
These users would include the city as well as several other property owners in the vicinity of Queen and Front streets.
