U.S. Coast Guard rescues 5 boaters
The U.S. Coast Guard successfully rescued five people early Wednesday after their boat crashed into the jetty in the waters near Murrells Inlet.
The distress call was received at about 2 p.m., about 15 minutes after the 21-foot-long Sea Hunt collided with the rocks.
According to the Coast Guard, Daniel Isaac of Myrtle Beach and four others were on board at the time.
All five boaters went to Waccamaw Community Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
After it was learned there were injuries, a Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched from Charleston to join the agency's boat that responded from Georgetown.
The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit also was en route when that crew was notified the rescue was complete.
Garden City Fire and the state Department of Natural Resources also were dispatched to help.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Andre Trinidad said those on board were rescued within 30 minutes of the call.
