A 51-year-old Georgetown man was arrested after he allegedly beat a 10-year-old child in the face with a cement block.
According to a Georgetown Police report, the incident happened Friday at the corner of Emanuel and “C” Streets in Georgetown.
The 10-year-old, the report states, was walking on Emanuel Street when he saw a group of kids harassing the suspect, Steven Trappier.
“Mr. Trappier grabbed a baseball bat from a shed in the yard and began chasing the kids around,” the report states.
As the victim was passing the house, Trappier allegedly slapped him across the face.
The report states Trappier then grabbed a cement block and threw it at the child, a claim the victim’s mother disputes.
Kimbaya McNeal said Tuesday Trappier used the cement to hit her son on the face and head.
“I noted swelling to the child’s face and there were abrasions on his nose, below his nose and on the side near his cheek,” the officer wrote in his report.
McNeal took her son to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
After the alleged attack, Trappier ran inside his house and ignored repeated commands from police to walk outside.
“After about 15 minutes of knocking on the doors and calling him out, he exited,” the report states.
As he was being handcuffed, Trappier “resisted slightly and began yelling and cursing officers.”
He started spitting all over the back seat of the patrol car and attempted to kick out the passenger side window twice, the report states.
He was charged with assault and battery.
McNeal told police Trappier “is always doing and saying violent and inappropriate things to the children in that area.”
McNeal said she canvassed the neighborhood this weeks and has more than 60 signatures from people who say they are willing to testify in court about things they have witnessed through the years.
“I do not feel our children are safe,” McNeal said.
