• GHS has 'best shooting night'

Georgetown's Bulldogs had a good first quarter in their game against Socastee, with 22 points.

"It was the best shooting night we had of the season," coach Alvin "Stitch" Walker said.

The final score of the game was Georgetown 69, Socastee 49.

The boys' varsity team had six 3-point shots in the first quarter on Friday.

Avery Evans had 3, Tevin Johnson, Jervay Muhamad and Ben Grant had one each.

And, the team shot 9 for 15 from the free throw line. "That was great."

"We play hard every game. We were just overdue to shoot well," Walker said.

He added that he hoped the win would give his team confidence for their game Tuesday against St. James, at home.

Calling it a "tough game," Walker said "We really need to beat them" because of a loss earlier in the season against the Sharks.

"I'm just happy for the fellows to see the ball go through the hoop.

"This is one of the hardest-working groups of fellows I've had."

Avery Evans led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Jervay Muhamad and Ben Grant had 11 points each; Marcus Archie 9; Tevin Johnson 6; Justin Wright 5; Jadia Johnson 3; Terry Johnson 2; Anthony Blair 2; and A.J. Walker 2.

For Socastee, Brandon Alston at 15 and Zach Slocum at 10 were leading scorers.

Georgetown led all four quarters: 22-15 in the first; 38-23 in the second; 50-34 in the third; and 69-49 in the final period.

"I give them a lot of credit, because they didn't relax," Walker said.
