Williamsburg County firefighters responded to a house fire at 865 Sleepy Prong Road near Andrews early Sunday morning.
When the flames were extinguished a body was discovered inside the charred remains of the home.
Very little information has been released by the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office or the coroner’s office about the incident. However, investigators told the Kingstree News the incident may be related to a suicide that took place in Georgetown Sunday morning.
Williamsburg Sheriff Michael Johnson said deputies were initially sent to Sleepy Prong Road to check on someone at a home next to the one that was on fire. The body in the burned home was found while deputies were on the scene.
Deputy Coroner Vernell Fulton said Tuesday the body that was found was burned to the point that dental records “and whatever else we can find” is being used to try to make an identification.
Fulton also said because of the condition of the body, it’s unknown if he died from the fire or if he was dead before the fire.
The cause of the fire is also still unknown.
Georgetown County deputies responded to a residence off Brick Chimney Road at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday where they found a man deceased in a garage. A note was left by the man but the contents of that note was not released.
Johnson said the contents of that note are part of the investigation in Williamsburg County, the Kingstree News reports.
