Perhaps you recall the horrid story of The Donner Party — the true story of a nineteenth century group of Americans who were migrating to the West Coast in covered wagons. They took an unproven shortcut and miscalculated the weather. An early snowstorm left them stranded high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains as winter unmercifully assaulted them making further travel impossible until springtime.
It didn’t take long before hunger and starvation overcame the group and they became cannibals. They ate the flesh of their deceased neighbors and families. It’s a terrible story of inhumanity that resonates in today’s economic world. As an appalling economy fed by unbridled government spending overtook American society several years ago, a large segment of our citizenry became engaged in cannibalism by insisting that we consume the economic futures of our children and grandchildren. With our government’s refusal to curb the hemorrhaging of an out-of-control spending spree, we are devouring the prosperity of future generations.
Economic cannibals
We have become a nation of monetary cannibals. I have termed the trillions of dollars of deficit spending, “Donner Party Economics.” This new vision of selfish economics took another giant mouthful of our children’s futures when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled last week that so-called ObamaCare would result in the largest tax increase in history.
By insisting that our government become all things to all people, our economic system has shed the prospects of commonsense and continues to spend way beyond our means. We are digesting the prospects of a fruitful life for our progeny. We are guaranteeing the economic starvation of future generations. It makes no sense and exposes our greed for a heaven-on-earth existence today at the expense of our children’s tomorrows. Those who continue to propose doing nothing about the nation’s deficit and out-of-control spending should be ashamed of themselves!
Whenever times grow economically tumultuous, we should be looking at ways to sacrifice in order to secure the future. In spite of the failure of government pump-priming, the Obama administration insists on spending even more money searching for prosperity. Imagine a father who has just lost his job sitting down at the dinner table and announcing that in order to overcome adversity, the family is going out tomorrow and spend what money they have left and all that they can borrow. That’s the path the current administration would have us choose. We are rapidly devouring our children’s future.
We have been compelled to raise the nation’s borrowing limit numerous times in recent years with another increase within the next few months imminent — just to keep us afloat. But the spending goes on.
Jobs for aliens
To add insult to injury to our economic plight this administration has decided to recognize almost a million illegal young aliens now in this country by legalizing their presence with work permits and removing the threat of deportation in spite of the fact that 25 percent of young Americans of the same age, whose ancestors built this nation, are unemployed. The administration is doing this all for the sake of getting Hispanic votes.
Black youth suffer most
The group which suffers most from this recent fiasco will be black youth. The Obama White House knows they have the black vote locked up; therefore, they are willing to throw young black people under the bus to gain a few more Hispanic votes. The legalized alien young folks will take jobs from all groups but especially the black younger generation where unemployment runs as high as 40 percent. They will become further victims of “Donner Party” economics. President Obama knows well enough that he can adopt a “let-them-eat-cake” attitude with black voters. You would imagine that the black population would recognize this for what it is.
If this administration is allowed to have its way, we will one day soon be gnawing at the bones of capitalism to satiate the greed of the immediate gluttony of those who would cannibalize our Free Enterprise system.
I would like to think that the American people will one day come to their senses. But the big question is: Will it be too late?
Voters will have an opportunity to express their views this November. Let’s hope that a strong message will be sent to those who espouse “Donner Party” economics before we totally consume the entire hope of the future generations of this nation.’
Pray for such a revelation!
