“This is the day which the Lord hath made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

It is wonderful to be awakened by the singing of the birds; still more wonderful to meet the day with the sight of budding and blooming varied hue flowers. We can hear and see all the signs of springtime. God’s timing is so perfect, and His creation is so wonderful. The Bible says that His mercies are new every morning.  That means that every day we have another chance to be all that we can be, and to live right according to God’s standards.  We are a blessed people.

The Diabetes Core Group of Georgetown presented a dinner theater program at the old Choppee gym at 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 13th with Dr. Gayenell Magwood as the emcee. Others on the opening program were Terry Cox, Rev. William McNeil, Nyrhonda Nixon, Joyce Linnen, and a special poetry presentation by Jody Jones.

After a delicious and healthy meal, the diners readied themselves for the performance, “Tired of Wearing Black.” The play was about some hard headed men, all diabetics, who refused to eat right and do right, so they could live right on, and their wives wouldn’t have to end up wearing black to an early funeral. There were some humorous moments, but also some serious moments, and the men finally decided to take heed. The cast of characters were:Jack Ladson, Glenda Cox, Susan Myers, Dorothy Ford, Annette Ladson, Marvin Neal, Andrew Linnen, Lucian Lesene,  Charlena Johnson, Daniel Shubrick, Nicholas Graham, and Florene Linnen as herself.

Special musical guests were the Mt. Sinai Youth Choir under the direction of Ruthie Woods, and the Heavenly Angels and youth soloist, Janae (Ms B) Bradford.

After the play, Marvin Neal recognized the special guests, which included doctors from MUSC and their spouses; Representative Carl Anderson, Clerk of Court, Alma White, Rev Herman Ford, Jr., and others. Remarks were made by the chair of the Diabetes Core Group, Mrs. Florene Linnen and her assistant, Mrs.Carretha Vereen.  Mrs Linnen gave directions for the lighted candles that had been given out to every person.

With a darkened house the candles shone with great splendor as everyone joined in singing, “We are the World” led by Janae. The song was made famous by Michael Jackson and a variety of other musical stars. Mrs.Linnen was pleased with the outcome of the dinner theater, and she and her committee should be commended for a job well done.

Mrs. Janet B. Graham and Ms Vergie Tennison of the Howard High School Alumni Association would like to know if there are any Howard High School female alumni who are 90 years plus.  They would like to present these persons with a gift for Mother’s Day.

The Missionary Society of Trinity AME Church presents White Night in Missions program on Saturday, March 19th at 6:00 P.M. at the church. Special guest speaker will be Rev Hoover Footman, evangelist and gospel singer. You are invited.

Just a note for those of you who have cell phones: Remember not to answer a ringing cell phone while it is connected to the charger. This has been known to cause serious damage because of possible explosion and even death. Take serious note of this.

I would like to pay tribute to a great lady of radio days, Mrs. Mamie Delzell. I had quite a few instances to talk with “Miss Mamie” concerning fond memories of those by gone days.  I can still hear her voice ringing with “Hello Ladies” when I was but a little girl. She was greatly admired by all and was the town crier of town criers. She will be missed.

Don’t forget to pray for the sick and shut in, the bereaved, those in nursing homes and hospitals, the elderly who live alone, those wrongfully accused behind prison bars, our men and women on the battlefield in Iraq, the peace of Israel and for each other.
