Geraldine Wright of Hemingway

FUNERAL SERVICES

Wayne Beeson

Wayne Beeson, 42, of Myrtle Beach lost his battle to cancer at Grand Strand hospital on August 30, 2012.

He was predeceased by his parents, Hank and Phyllis Beeson.

Surviving are his wife, Eileen Beeson of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sons, Austin and Mikal Beeson, both of Myrtle Beach; two step-daughters, Ariel Cook of Andrews and Krysta Cook of Myrtle Beach; three sisters, Marilyn Fenters of Murrells Inlet, S.C. and Beverly Ackerman and Renee Miller, both of Georgetown, S.C.; one brother, Kenneth Beeson of Andrews; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Beeson was a house painter by trade.

A private memoral service will be held at a later date.

Rosemary Bridgeman

Rosemary Egan Bridgeman, age 88, died Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Tidelands Community Hospice House.

He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. to the late Peter and Helen Egan.

Mrs. Bridgeman was the eldest of six children.  

She describes her family as being “poor as church mice.”  

Having skipped first and third grades, she graduated from high school at the age of fifteen with a full scholarship to Duquesne University and worked at AT&T.

Along came World War II and her dream was to join one of the women’s services.  

As telephone companies were considered crucial for the war effort, none of the women’s service branches would accept her.  

Mrs. Bridgeman worked in the business office during the war years. She married the love of her life James Bridgeman and they carried on the tradition of large families and had seven children.  

When the four oldest children were in college, Mrs. Bridgeman decided it was time to go back to college and earn a degree.  

She found she had a special ability of speaking with people addicted to alcohol.  

Mrs. Bridgeman enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh to do her studies.  

She became the Director of Ala-Call, the New Jersey 24-hour Hot Line for Alcoholics.  

She and James joined Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG).  

They formed a small PFLAG in their community in New Jersey.

Through these and many other community involvements Rosemary touched and changed many lives.

For 18 years they had vacationed along the Grand Strand.

After James’s death Rosemary moved to Pawleys Island and later to The Lakes at Litchfield where she enjoyed playing bridge and Mahjongg (oriental style).  

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Gregory Bridgeman; a brother and two sisters.

Survivors include her five sons, Jim (Dorothy) of Quaker Hill, Conn., Chris (Cindy) of DeBordieu, S.C., Ken of San Francisco, Calif., Brian (Sherie) of Zelienople, Pa. and Pete (Kathy) of Vienna, Va.; two daughters, Juli Ricksecker of San Diego, Calif. and Mary (Jim) Beach of Marlton, N.J.; 13 grandchildren, Dan, Nathan, Hannah, Andrew, Brian, Jeff, Dom, Ian, Tavis, Jonathon, Jared, Justin and Ashley; 11 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Pete Egan of Phoenix, Ariz. and Mike Egan of Binghamton, N.Y.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Grace Church, 14323 Ocean Hwy., Pawleys Island, S.C. 29585 “next to Applewoods” with Reverend Stuart Boehmig officiating.  

Interment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Lizzie Canteen

 

Lizzie J. Canteen, 94, of the Rose Hill Community, Georgetown, S.C., died Monday, September 3, 2012 in Georgetown.

Funeral services will held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2012 in the Choppee Community, with burial following in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Canteen was born on March 22, 1917 in Georgetown County, S.C. to Ms. Fannie Joyner.

She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.  

Her community affiliations included membership with the Eastern Stars.

She was the widower of Willie Canteen.

Survivors include: her sons:  Leon Joyner of Las Vegas, Nev. and Leroy Joyner of Georgetown, S.C.

Funeral service arrangements are entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.

 

Samuel Canty Jr.

Linen-Knox Funeral Home announces the funeral services for Samuel Canty Jr., age 71, of the Belle Isle Community of Georgetown, S.C.

Mr. Canty died on Monday, Sept. 3, 2012 at Waccamaw Community Hospital.

He was the husband of Barbara Canty and the son of the late Samuel Canty Sr. and Marie N. Canty of Sumter, S.C.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Lighthouse of Jesus Christ Church.

Bishop Dr. Floyd Knowlin, pastor and founder of Lighthouse of Jesus Christ Church, and Elder Anthony Chandler, pastor of the Church of God and True Holiness in the St. Luke Community, will be officiating.

Burial will follow in the St. Luke Cemetery.

Viewing services will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 at the funeral home.

Final viewing will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012.

Survivors include his mother, Marie N. Canty of Sumter, S.C.; his wife, Barbara Canty of the Belle Isle Community of Georgetown; three daughters, Sheryn T. Robinson of Lyman, S.C., Valerie Barfield of Orlando, Fla. and Vanessa Cox of Aiken, S.C.; four sons, Wyman Canty of Lancaster, Pa., Kenneth Canty of Bennettsville, S.C., Brian Canty of Georgetown, S.C. and Preston Canty of Sumter, S.C.; one sister, Sandra Jackson of Suitland, Md.; one aunt, Alfreda Love of Washington, D.C.; and a host of loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Linen-Knox Funeral Home.

Edna Rowe

Edna Owens Rowe, 97, of Georgetown, S.C. died Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Genesis Health Care in Mooresville, N.C.

Mrs. Rowe was born in Andrews on May 9, 1915, a daughter of the late Walter Hazard Owens and Beaulah S. Avant Owens.  

She grew up in Andrews and graduated from Andrews High School.  

Mrs. Rowe was a charter member and the oldest member of Friendfield Presbyterian Church, where she was the first secretary and treasurer, a former president of the Women of the Church, and a member of the Pulpit Committee.  

She was a former president of both the Magnolia Garden Club and the Homemaker’s Club, and a Cub Scout Leader.

Surviving are two sons, Bobby Rowe (Carol Ann) of Sherrill’s Ford, N.C. and Jeryl Rowe (Betty) of Wilmington, N.C.; five grandchildren, Steven, Carol, Craig, Michael, and Baxter; and nine great-grandchildren.  

Special thanks are given to:  Betty Ricks, Frankie Pieterse and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Johnson, and to Wendy Yates.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, September 8, 2012, at Andrews Memorial Cemetery.  

Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Robert Wilkes.
