Linda Altman
Linda “Gail” Roberts Altman, 60, of Gresham, SC passed away Tuesday Aug. 31, 2010 at her home.
Mrs. Altman was born in Hemingway, a daughter of the late Paul Lee Roberts Sr. and the late Mary Ann Beverly Roberts. She was a seamstress and was a graduate of Hemingway High School.
Surviving are her husband, Teddy Altman of the home; children, Derriel Baxley and Tonya Miller both of Hemingway; step-daughter, Fonda Miles and Karen Owens both of Johnsonville; brother, Carl L. Roberts of Statesville, NC, Bobby Roberts of Johnsonville, Paul Lee Roberts Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC, and Ray Roberts of Hemingway; sister, Gwynette R. Lewis of Hemingway; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Hemingway with burial in the Garden of Devotion Cemetery.
The family received friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010.
Margaret Grant
Margaret Martin Forbes Grant, 95, of Pawleys Island died in her home on August 29, 2010.
Born in Norfolk, Va. on November 25, 1914, she was the daughter of James Green Martin and Henrietta Niemeyer Martin.
She graduated from Randolph Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, Va. in 1937 and married Dr. Henry Louis Forbes of Columbia S.C. that same year.
They lived in Charleston, W.Va. and Wilmington, Del. before moving to Montreal, Canada in 1954, where Dr. Forbes was an executive with DuPont of Canada.
In 1974, they retired and moved to Pawleys Island, where they had spent vacations for most of their married life.
In 1977, Dr. Forbes died, and five years later, in 1982, Mrs. Forbes married Alaxander McCalla Grant of Montreal.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Grant was intensely interested in the arts.
She was an accomplished dancer and taught modern dance, ballet and ballroom dancing. She also taught drama and correlated arts and directed numerous plays with young people’s groups.
At Pawleys Island, she was active in her community.
She served on the Board of Holy Cross Faith Memorial School during the tenure of Mrs. Roby Forsythe.
She also served on the board of the Rice Museum in Georgetown.
She was a leader of the “Great Books” series of the Georgetown County Library, and was a founder of the Pawleys Island Writers Group.
An amputee, she championed the rights of the disabled.
Mrs. Grant is survived by her children, Margaret Forbes Piehler of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Henry Louis Forbes, III of New York; her stepson, Alan Grant of Kingston, Ontario, Canada; her grandsons, Michael Piehler of Morehead City, N.C. and Christopher Piehler of Los Angeles, Calif.; and her step-granddaughters, Gillian Grant of Ontario, Canada and Jennifer Grant of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date at Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church.

James Guy
James Fitzroy Guy, 100, of Georgetown, SC and formerly of Brooklyn, NY died Wednesday, September 1, 2010 in Murrells Inlet, SC.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2010 at Wilds Courtyard Chapel.
Culmination of services will take place in Brooklyn, NY with burial following in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY.
Mr. Guy was born August 25, 1910 in Barbados, British West Indies to Beresford Guy and Miriam Perkins.
He attended Barbados Public Schools and worked as a bus driver for the New York Transit Authority.
He is survived by his daughter, Thelma Beaubian of Georgetown, SC.
Service arrangements are entrusted and directed by Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.
Peggy McCutchen
Mrs. Peggy Lee McCutchen, 56, of 64 McCutchen Drive, Andrews, SC.
Mrs. McCutchen departed this life on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2010 at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Andrews with Rev. Dr. Eddie Gamble Jr., officiating.
Burial follows in the Church Cemetery, under the direction of McKnight-Fraser Funeral Homes.
Mrs. McCutchen, the daughter of the late James and Tina Gamble Montgomery, was born August 3, 1954 in Andrews, SC.
She attended Williamsburg County schools and was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and the Mass Choir.
Survivors are her husband, Gillie McCutchen, Andrews, SC; one daughter, Andrea M. Canteen, Andrews, SC; two sons, Anthony McCutchen and Michael McCutchen of Andrews, SC; seven grandchildren, three sisters, Dorothy Willis, Henrietta Boyd of Andrews, SC and Mary Darby, Georgetown, SC; four brothers, Jerome Montgomery, Lee Montgomery of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Thurmond Montgomery, Georgetown, SC and Norman Montgomery, Andrews, SC; and a niece raised as a sister, Patricia McCray, Andrews, SC.
Charles Stockly
Charles Wilson Stockly, 86, of Georgetown died Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Stockly was born in Wilmington, Del. on April 19, 1924, a son of the late Ayres Jacques Stockly and Esther Rachel Wilson Stockly.
He served in the Navy during World War II and was the former Financial Controller for Continental Can Co.
Mr. Stockly served as a Vestryman, Sunday school teacher, Committee Chairman of Boyscout Troop #94, and as Chairman of the Finance Committee at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Middletown, Del.
He also served on the Vestry of Trinity Church in Elkton, Md.
Mr. Stockly was a founding board member of Junior Achievement in Wilmington, Del. and was instrumental in establishing a 200 mile territorial fishing limit.
In 1986, Mr. Stockly moved to Georgetown and pioneered the clean-up of Winyah Bay.
He was the 1994 president of the Georgetown Sportfishing Assoc. and a board member for many years.
Mr. Stockly worked with the Baruch Foundation and N.O.A. to guarantee traditional sport fishing at North Inlet.
He was a founding board member of Helping Hands, a member of the Belle Isle Yacht Club, vice-president of the Belle Isle Homeowner’s Assoc., Treasurer of the Historic Ricefields Assoc., Inc. and loved hunting, fishing and golf. Mr. Stockly was a member of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy D. Stockly of Georgetown; a brother, Ayres Holmes Stockly of Falmouth, Maine; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be on Friday morning, September 10, 2010, at Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church at ten o’clock.
Officiating will be the Rev. Paul C. Fuener and the Rt. Rev. C. FitzSimons Allison.
Inurnment will be private.
A reception will immediately follow the memorial services in the Church Parrish hall.
