Veronica Scott, age 58, of Hemingway, S.C.

FUNERAL SERVICES

Willie Pender

Willie Mae Floyd Pender, 81, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Born on October 22, 1931, in Olanta, she was a daughter of the late Talmage Floyd and the late Lula Mae Caulder Floyd.

Mrs. Pender was a member of Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church where she served as a former choir member and Sunday school teacher.

She enjoyed working in the yard, crocheting, dancing and cooking.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Ralph W. Pender of Georgetown; one son, Ralph Mark Pender (Sheila) of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Pender and Laura Ashley Pender both of Georgetown; and five sisters, Miriam Thompson of Lake City, Joyce Pruitt of Atlanta, Phyllis Downing (Delmo) of Andrews, Ollie Ray MacDonald (Carrol) of Hartsville and Annie Faye Hall (Ben) of Hartsville.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Myra Petkus.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Marie Nuckles officiated and burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery.

The family received friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church, 84 Forest Avenue, Georgetown, SC 29440.

Brenda Young

 

Brenda Sue Carter Young, 64, of Hemingway, S.C., wife of Danny Young, passed away on Tuesday March 5, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Young was born in Andrews, SC, a daughter of the late Leonard D. and Dotsie Faye Gainey Carter.  

She was a homemaker and a member of the EL Chapman Worship Center. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and listening to them play music.

She also enjoyed reading her Bible, cooking, working in her yard, and especially picking on “Pa Pa.” She always had a smile for everyone.

Surviving are her husband, Danny Young; daughters, Pamela (David) Port, Tammy (W.H.) Altman, Susan (Mike Dailey) Young, and Danielle (Darrick) Poston; grandchildren, Joshua (Brittany), “Duke Duke,” Dillon, Katelin, Brandi (Linwood Poston), William, Timmy, Nicholas, Zachary, Billy (Stephanie), Mandy, Beth, and TeresaMae; great-grandchildren, Summer and Trinity; brothers, Leonard (Jackie) Carter and Robert (Karen) Carter; sisters, Elma (Pat) Rogers, Vera (Don) Poston, and Faye (Watson) Owens; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Young was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest (Gwen) Carter and O’Dell (Karen) Carter.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at EL Chapman Worship Center.

Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be in Lake Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at EL Chapman Worship Center from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013.
