Mamie Delzell
Mamie Assey Delzell, 96, of Georgetown died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in Pawleys Island.
Mrs. Delzell was born in Georgetown County on February 25, 1914, the daughter of the late John Thomas Assey, Sr. and Letifa Kozma Assey. She was a life-long resident of Georgetown.
Mrs. Delzell and her husband owned and managed radio station WGTN where she was known as "The Town Crier" and for her program "Hello Ladies."
Throughout her life she was involved in many community activities. Among many awards, Mrs. Delzell was honored with a key to the City of Georgetown and as Business Woman of the Year.
A devout member of St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church, she was active with the Altar Society (treasurer), Catholic Women's Club, choir, and a lector at Mass. She was always willing to help without being asked.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph B. Delzell; a brother, Dr. John T. Assey, Jr.; four sisters, Rosa A. Lilly, Matilda Assey, Lillian Assey and Jesse Assey; a nephew, Dr. Michael Assey.
Having had no children, "Aunt Mamie" was loved by all her nieces and nephews: Susan Lilly Parker and sons Joseph E. Wilson(Christina) and Andrew G. Parker, Helen Lilly Johnson, John T. Adrian, James M. Assey, Jane Assey, Robert A. Assey, and Dr. C. Timothy Assey and many great and great great nieces and nephews. She was a mother to them all.
Visitation is Friday, March 19, 5 to 7 p.m., in the church hall. Afterwards, a short wake service will be held in the church.
Funeral services are on Saturday, March 20, 11 a.m., at St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church.

Wally Gaskins
Wally “Gator” Walden Gaskins,56, of Georgetown died Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at his residence.
He was born February 22, 1954 in Georgetown, a son of the late C.R. Joseph Gaskins and the late Mamie Dee Walden Gaskins
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.in First Baptist Church.
Officiating will be Dr. Ted Sherrill.
Mr. Gaskins was a crane operator with Liberty Terminals.
He was a good ,loving father and an avid Gamecock fan.
His favorite pro team was the Green Bay Packers.
Mr. Gaskins was a very outgoing and social person who enjoyed playing basketball and foosball.
Surviving are one daughter, Amanda Lynn Gaskins of Georgetown; Amanda’s mother, Judy Lee of Georgetown; one brother, Charlie Roy Gaskins of Georgetown; one aunt, Blanche Hutchinson of Georgetown; one niece, Chris-Dee Brooke Cooper of Georgetown; one great-niece, Kinley Cooper; and one great-nephew, Dylan Lowrimore.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Graham Funeral Home.

Alwyn Goldstein
Mr. Goldstein, 94, of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Georgetown, SC, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 16, 2010.
He was born on June 4, 1915 in Charleston, SC son of the late Max and Rosie Goldman Goldstein.
Mr. Goldstein was the owner of Alwyn’s Department Store in Georgetown, SC from 1938 to 1989.
Alwyn and his wife, Frances moved to Charlotte, NC in 2004 where he became a well loved and vibrant resident of Sunrise on Providence Road.
Mr. Goldstein was an avid supporter of The Charlotte Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
He was a 33-degree mason, a Shriner, and a Past Patron of Eastern Star Chapter #148 of Georgetown, SC.
In addition to his parents, Alwyn was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Engel Goldstein.
Alwyn is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Frances Ward Goldstein; daughter Roz G. Greenspon and her husband Marty Birnbaum, of Charlotte, NC; Son, Dr. Steven Goldstein and his wife Hallie of West Chester, PA; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Stan Greenspon, Dorothy Phipps, and Sam Ward.
Service and Interment will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010 in Georgetown, SC. Shiva will be observed Sunday and Monday evenings, March 21 and 22, 2010 in Charlotte, NC.

Samantha Zurcher
Samantha Gwen Zurcher, 34, of Gresham went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, March 17, 2010, at her residence.
Ms. Zurcher was born August 6, 1975, a daughter of John Grady Zurcher and Bonnie Jean Lambert Zurcher. She was a member of the Christian Fortress Church.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are: three sisters, Annette (Leo) Cook, Christina (John) Cook, and Sarah Zurcher, and a number of neices and nephews.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday March 19, 2010, at the Christian Fortress Church with interment in the Elmwood Cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 12-3 p.m., Friday, March 19, 2010, prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
