FUNERAL SERVICES

Luemase M. Cyrus

Funeral services for the late Luemase McGill Cyrus will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Greater St. Mark AME Church in Hemingway. The Rev. Arthur Ford, pastor will conduct the religious service. Interment will follow in the St. Mark/St. Mary Cemetery.

Mrs. Cyrus entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 4, 2010 at Carolina Hospital System in Florence after an illness.

She was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Henry and Martha McGill.

She was educated in Williamsburg County public schools. She was a member of Greater St. Mark AME Church at an early age. She served on the Missionary Society, Senior choir and a member of class #2.

She was employed with Williamsburg County School District as a dietitian at Battery Park HS.

She was joined in holy wedlock to Eugene Cyrus, and to this union eight children were born. Two preceded her in death.

Loving memories will be cherished by her husband, Eugene Cyrus of Hemingway; one daughter, Cheryl Watyerman of Hemingway; five sons, Eugene (Carol) Cyrus Jr. of Montclair, NJ, Willis (Annie) Cyrus and Henry (Norma) Cyrus, both of Kingstree, Johnnie (Martha) Cyrus of Hemingway, Robert (Robin) Cyrus of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one sister, Jessie Pressley of Hemingway; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Arnetha J. Aklin Davis

Mrs. Arnetha J. Aklin Davis, 57, of 906 Cohen Drive in the Pee Dee Community of Georgetown, S.C., departed this life on Saturday, July 3, 2010 in Georgetown, S.C.

Funeral Services were held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2010 at Trinity AME Church with Rev. John Sumter, officiating. Burial follows in Aklin Cemetery under the direction of McKnight-Fraser Funeral Homes.

Mrs. Davis was a daughter of the late Willie Aklin and Evelina Carr Aklin. She was born November 5, 1952 in Georgetown, S.C. She attended Georgetown County Schools and was a member of Trinity AME Church.

Survivors are her son, Tony J. Davis, New Haven, CT; three daughters, Alethia A. Walker, Georgetown, SC, Evelynn Davis, Myrtle Beach, SC, Angela A. Davis, Hemingway, SC; three sisters, Patricia A. Sumpter, Mary E. Sumpter of Hemingway, SC and Doris McCray, Conway, SC; three brothers, Willie Aklin, Hemingway, SC, Timothy Aklin, Joe Moore of New Haven, CT; and 7 grandchildren.

Wilhelmina E. Ferguson

Funeral services for the late Wilhelmina E. Ferguson will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Nesmith-Pinckney Funeral Home Inc., 81 Sams Circle, Hemingway, S.C. The Rev. Betty Wilson, officiating, will conduct the religious service. Interment will follow in the St. Mark Cemetery in Kingsburg.

Mrs. Ferguson entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 7, 2010 at her residence in Hemingway after an illness.

She was born in Florence County, daughter of the late Early and Maybelle Fleming. She was educated in the public schools of Florence County.

She was joined in holy wedlock to the late Bernie Eaddy. To this union four children were born. One daughter preceded her in death.

Loving memories will be cherished by: one daughter, Clara Eaddy of Hemingway; two sons, Bernie Eaddy of Baltimore, MD and Irvin Eaddy of Pamplico; 18 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Jannie J. Jordan

Florence - Jannie Lee Johnson Jordan, 83, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 in a Florence hospital after an illness.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2010 at Central United Methodist Church with entombment following in Mount Hope Cemetery Mausoleum.

Mrs. Jordan, wife of the late George Sterling Jordan, was born in Statesville, NC a daughter of the late Tresco Wade and Annie Lee Sharpe Johnson.

She graduated from Florence High School in 1944, earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Winthrop College in 1948, and earned a Masters Degree in Education from Francis Marion College in 1977. She was a school teacher for 25 years.

Mrs. Jordan was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Kappa Kappa Iota educational sorority, and Heritage Literary Club. She was both a Girl Scout Leader and a swimming and life saving instructor for many years. She enjoyed her family, gardening, and her friends.

Surviving are three daughters, Carey (Walter) Given of Georgetown, and Diane (Billy) Scarborough and Martha (David) Strait both of Florence; and six grandchildren, Chris (Jamae) Streett of Columbia, Brent (Dana) Streett of Georgetown, Laura Scarborough of Aiken, and Jacob Strait, Jordan Strait, and Grey Strait all of Florence; and a special life-long friend, Elizabeth Coker.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of McLeod Regional Medical Center for their wonderful care and support.

Lillie S. Montgomery

Lillie Altman Springs "Lal" Montgomery, 90, of Kingstree, widow of Ike Montgomery, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, in Tidelands Hospice House in Georgetown.

Mrs. Montgomery was born February 8, 1920, in the Rhems Community, a daughter of John Graham and Lillie Jane Gordon Altman. She was a homemaker, a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, and a very devoted mother and grandmother. In addition to her second husband, Isaac (Ike) Montgomery, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ashable Grover Springs and 2 sons, Kedron and Roger Springs.

Surviving are: her 6 children, Charles Helen Turner of Florence, Jean M. Martin of Lake City, Sidney O. (Ruth) Springs and Grover G. (Trudy) Springs, both of Georgetown, and Madge S. Eaddy and Sylvia J. Springs, both of Kingstree; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and a sister Laura A. Horton, of Kingstree.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2010, in the chapel of Williamsburg Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Williamsburg Cemetery. The family received friends on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser Street, Georgetown, SC 29440.
