FUNERAL SERVICES
Van Altman
Van Meter Altman, 85, born in Hemingway, SC, formerly of Morristown, NJ and Pawleys Island, SC passed away Wednesday, July 21st 2010.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Altman and his only grandson, Van Laskos.
He is survived by his children Vanette Altman of Pawleys Island, SC, Dean Altman of New Vernon, NJ, and William Altman of Dagsboro, DE.
He is also survived by his granddaughters Elaina Laskos, Olivia Altman, Nyssa Altman and Teagan Altman.
Mr. Altman had a distinguished career as a Chief Marine Engineer during World War II with the Merchant Marines and with the Military Sealift Command for 50 years.
He was the recipient of many awards, commendations and honors by the U.S. Department of the Navy.
Viewing was at Doyle Funeral Home at 106 Maple Avenue, Morristown, NJ 07960 on Monday and Tuesday.
Funeral was at Saint Andrews Greek Orthodox in Randolph, NJ on Wednesday, July 21, 2010.
Willie Hughie
Willie Hughie of 4950 South Fraser Street in Georgetown died on Monday, July 19, 2010 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Dickerson AME Church, directed by Linen-Knox Funeral Home of Georgetown.
Burial will be in the Old Mt. Zion Church Cemetery.
Mr. Hughie was born September 7, 1927 in Georgetown, SC, a son of Mr. Willie Hughie Sr. and Mrs. mary Grandwell.
He attended Georgetown High School and was a member of Dickerson AME Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Mary Frances Jenkins of Georgetown; one granddaughter, Renee Jenkins of Georgetown; one grandson, Mondrea Jenkins of Plantersville; one adopted son, Lawrence Green of Coward, SC; two sisters, Azalea Moore and Rebecca Gaskins, both of Charleston, SC; a special nephew, Prince Davis of Tea Neck, NJ; a special niece, Ereka Geathers of Prince George, Va.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Ernestine McNeil
Ernestine McNeil, 84, of Georgetown, SC died Monday, July 19, 2010 at Prince George Healthcare, Georgetown, SC.
Funeral services for Mrs. McNeil will be held 11 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2010 at Wilds Courtyard Chapel.
Burial will follow in Florence National Cemetery, Florence, South Carolina.
Mrs. McNeil was born May February 12, 1926 in Georgetown, South Carolina to Frank G. Ford, Sr. and Mrs. Hannah Buck Ford.
Mrs. McNeil lived in Florence, SC for most of her adult life and was the widower of Daniel McNeil. She worked as a housekeeper and she was a member of Monumental Missionary Baptist Church, Florence, SC.
She is survived by her grandson, reared as her son: Travis “Rod” McNeil of Florence, SC; three brothers: Rev. Frank Ford, Jr. and John Arthur Ford of Georgetown, SC and Joseph Ford of Frederick, MD; six sisters: Ruth Joyner, Geneva Alston, Mary Lee Milton and Catherine Gamble all of Georgetown, SC, Ada Green of New Haven, CT and Ethel Hughie of Neptune, NJ,
Funeral service arrangements are entrusted and directed by Wilds Funeral Home of Georgetown.
