FUNERAL SERVICES
Sarah Easterling
Sarah Margaret Palmer Easterling, of Columbia, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and friend, known to many as “Maggie,” passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Her gentle, graceful spirit will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Born November 6, 1932, to Mamie Lorena Pond Palmer and Horace FitzWilliam Palmer, Mrs. Easterling graduated from Bennettsville High School.
She attended Winthrop College and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and a Minor in Music.
She began her teaching career at Bradley Elementary School in Columbia, SC, Richland School District One.
Mrs. Easterling later worked as a first grade teacher at Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School in Richland School District Two.
She earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of South Carolina, and eventually served as a Curriculum Coordinator at Lonnie B. Nelson and North Springs Elementary Schools.
During her tenure at Lonnie B. Nelson, Mrs. Easterling was instrumental in the school becoming a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.
In 1982, after suffering a debilitating cerebral hemorrhage, Mrs. Easterling retired from education, with many fond memories of her former colleagues and students.
In 1983, Mrs. Easterling moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Handicapped Women’s Organization. For many years, she served as the organization’s president.
She spent her days working on family scrapbooks, cooking, and writing beautiful, heartwarming letters to family and friends.
Mrs. Easterling was blessed with a large and loving family.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, William Keitt Easterling.
She will be missed by her daughters, Mary Margaret Easterling Turbeville, Keitt Easterling Samtmann (Drew), Macon Palmer Easterling Warren (Andrew), and Helen Elizabeth Easterling Farias (Sandro); brother-in-law, Harry R. Easterling (Mary Kay); grandchildren, William Lawrence Turbeville, III, Shannon Leigh Turbeville, Patrick Forrest Turbeville, O’Neill John Samtmann, Kelly Anne Turbeville, Reed Elizabeth Keitt Samtmann, Michael Curtis Turbeville, Sarah Caroline Warren, and Iselle Elizabeth Farias; and one niece and one nephew.
Funeral services will be one o’clock Saturday afternoon, February 6, 2010, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Bennettsville.
Officiating will be The Rev. James W. Barnhill. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Bennettsville.

Lila Quickel
Mrs. Lila Mercer Quickel, 79, wife of Glenn G. Quickel Sr. of Georgetown, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Georgetown on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 3:30 p.m.
Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
She was born January 4, 1931 in Georgetown County, a daughter of the late William Danie Mercer and the late Ida Virginia Munn Mercer.
Mrs. Quickel was a devoted wife, loving mother, and trusted friend who gave above and beyond herself to anyone who needed help.
She was a member of the Ruth Class at First Baptist and was a friendly woman who never met a stranger.
She loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed serving her community by working in polling stations during elections.
Surviving are; her husband, two sons, Glenn Gerald (Tanya) Quickel Jr. of Hobe Sound, FL and Stanley Lamar (Ruth) Quickel of Georgetown; her daughter Glennda Quickel (Kenneth) Williams of Sebring, FL; one grandchild, two great-grandchildren, two brothers, Guy W. "Billy" Mercer of Hemingway, SC and William Dan Mercer of Georgetown, SC, and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Sumter M. Mercer and Henry Edward Mercer, and her sister Hazel Mercer Bryson.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. at the church.

Kelly White
Mr. Kelly Roosevelt White, 80, of 2216 Nesmith Road, Nesmith, SC, departed this life on Saturday, January 30, 2010.
Funeral Services will be held 12 noon Saturday, February 6, 2010 at W. J. Mc Knight & Son Chapel in Andrews, SC with Rev. Morris Reddon, Jr., officiating. Services are under the direction of McKnight-Fraser Funeral Homes.
Mr. White son of the late Stephen and Sophie White was born May 8, 1929 in Nesmith, SC.
He was a member of St. John AME Church. He attended Williamsburg County Schools, he received a bachelor degree from Claflin College and he taught at several colleges including Morris College where he retired.
Survivors are, his wife, Edna, Bennettsville, SC; four sisters, Theresa Snow, Nesmith, SC, Wilhelemena White, Thomenesa Scott of New York and Elease Hayward, Philadelphia, PA; one brother, Stephen White, Jr., Nesmith, SC.
