FUNERAL SERVICES

Nathan Alford

Nathan Alford, 77, of Andrews died Monday, February 8, 2010, in a boating accident on Black River in Williamsburg Co.

Mr. Alford was born in Florence Co. on August 12, 1932, a son of the late Ellie Parker Alford and Alice Hyman Alford.

He grew up in Florence Co. served in the U. S. Army, and was a graduate of Andrews High School.

Mr. Alford retired as Market Manager after 40 years employment with the Andrews Piggly Wiggly.

He also was a farmer for most of his life.

Mr. Alford was a member and Deacon of Andrews Presbyterian Church.

He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Ann Kennedy Alford.

Surviving are a son Andrew S. Alford (Vivian) of Goldsboro, N.C.; three brothers, Rutledge Alford (Kizzie), Ethridge Alford (Dora), and John Henry Alford (Mary), all of Andrews; a sister, Evelyn Swails of Andrews; and two grandchildren, Sarah Wyse and Jenny Alford, both of Goldsboro, N. C.

Funeral services will be two o’clock Friday afternoon, February 12, 2010, at Andrews Presbyterian Church.   Officiating will be the Rev. William Stockton.

Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Andrews Presbyterian Church Thursday evening, February 11, 2010, from six until eight.

The Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Juk

Mildred Avant Juk, 87, of Columbia died Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at Agapé Senior Kathwood.

Mrs. Juk was born in Georgetown County on December 2, 1922, a daughter of the late Landy Wood Avant, Sr. and Ella Grier Avant.

She was the owner and operator of the Southern Lady and Mildred’s Dress Shop in Georgetown for 25 years.

Mrs. Juk was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church.

She lived in Georgetown for 86 years and moved to Columbia in October, 2008 to be near her children.  She missed her Georgetown friends and always smiled when she heard from “home.”

She was the wife of the late Steven Stanley Juk, Sr.

Surviving are a son, Dr. Stan Juk (Ann) of Columbia; a daughter, Susan Juk Salley (Chuck) of Columbia; five grandchildren, Steven Juk, Katherine Juk Draffin (Stephen), Charles Salley, Ella Salley and Alex Salley; three great-grandchildren, Walker Draffin, Ellie Draffin, and Ann Nelson Draffin; four brothers, Dalvin Avant, Dr. Bill Avant (Eleanor), and Landy Avant, all of Georgetown, and Ray Avant (Reba) of Columbia; and two sisters, Bunny Wilson of Georgetown and Frankie Dodd (Bruce) of Columbia.

Funeral services were on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at one o’clock in Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Georgetown.

Officiating was The Rev. Dr. G. Edward Usher. Immediately following the service, the family received friends in the Family Life Center of the Church.

Burial followed at Pennyroyal  Memorial Gardens at four o’clock.

The family wishes to thank all of Mrs. Juk’s faithful friends, including the staff and caregivers at Agapé Senior Kathwood. 

They also want to thank Helen Smith, Delaine Salley and Palmetto Health Hospice for their heartfelt love and devotion.

Margaret Phillips

Margaret Ann Phillips, 59, of Antioch Road, Conway, SC passed away February 9, 2010 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center following an illness.

Ms. Phillips was born August 9, 1950 in Conway, SC a daughter of Carolyn Jordan Skipper and the late A.C. Skipper.

She was predeceased by her brother, James Royce Skipper and grandparents, Page and Viola Skipper and Charlie and Eva Jordan.

She enjoyed going to White Lake and the mountains, but most of all spending time on her back porch talking on the phone with her friends and family.

She especially enjoyed being “mema” to Luke and Breanna.

Surviving in addition to her mother is her husband, John Franklin “Frankie” Phillips; her children, Rodney Gasque (Susie) and Tommy Smith (Tara); two grandsons, Joshua Gasque and Luke Gasque; one granddaughter, Breanna Smith; one brother, Earl Skipper of Conway; three sister-in-laws, Geraline Skipper of Conway, Barbara Ann Davis of Hemingway and Jo Camlin of Georgetown and several nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.

The family received friends at Watson Funeral Services from 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm Thursday, February 11, 2010. At all other times family will be at Carolyn Skippers residence.  

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday February 12, 2010 at Pee Dee Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. George Oliver, Pastor Leroy Larrimore and Rev. Mack Hutson officiating.

Burial will follow in Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Joseph Weaver Sr.

Funeral services for the late Joseph W. Weaver Sr. will be held 1:20 p.m. Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Carvers Bay High School in Hemingway, SC.

Rev. Eddie Towe will conduct the religious services.

Internment will follow in the Weaver Family Plot.

Mr. Weaver entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 15, 2010 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital in Georgetown after an illness.

He was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Elvin and Corene Selph Weaver.

He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He moved to New Jersey and worked there for many years

After returning back home, he worked at Georgetown Steel Co. and later in Georgetown County public schools. He also farmed.

He was joined in holy wedlock to Ethel Lee Vereen and to this union five children were born.

Loving memories will be cherished by his wife of Hemingway; three daughters, Cherry (Ernest) Josey of Florence, Kim (Anthony) Brown of Hemingway and Alex (Harry) Nelson of Columbia; two sons, Joseph Weaver Jr. of Hemingway and Jay (Theresa) Weaver of Columbia; two sisters, Earlene Weaver of Hemingway and Jacqueline McEachin of Freehold, N.J.; two brothers, Thaddeus (Edith) Weaver and Earvin (Carolyn) Weaver, both of Hemingway; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
