Halloween will come twice this year in the City of Georgetown.

While the actual day is next Wednesday, Oct. 31, an evening full of Halloween activities will take place this Friday on Front Street.

The “Not so Spooky Safe Halloween” — sponsored by the Front Street Merchants — will begin at 5:15 p.m. Friday with a performance by the Studio of Dance in Francis Marion Park.

That will be followed by trick or treating up and down Front Street starting at 5:30 p.m.

Something new this year is a “Movie in the Park” beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The film “Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit” will be shown on the lawn of the Kaminski House free of charge.

 The YMCA will be painting pumpkins for a small fee and selling concessions on Rainey Park from 5:30 p.m. - 7:15 p.m.

Organizer Steele Bremner said the events are taking place on the Friday before Halloween for several reasons.

One, she said, is because parents who work have an easier time getting to events on a Friday night than on a week night. Plus, kids do not have to worry about the time since there is no school the next day.

Also, she said, many churches and other organizations will be holding events on Halloween so the Front Street festival will not compete with those happenings.
