A home in Garden City was severely damaged by flames Christmas night.
The fire in the two-story home in the 1100 block of South Waccamaw Drive was reported at 10:40 p.m. and flames were through the roof when crews from Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire Rescue arrived.
At one point, a firefighter fell through the collapsing roof but escaped injury, according to reports from the scene.
Everyone in the home made it out safely, homeowner Lee Eaddy told Georgetown Times news partner WBTW-TV 13.
He said he was cooking french fries when the fire started and he "never saw anything go up so fast in his life."
Several neighbors couldn't get to their homes as fire vehicles blocked the road.
Most of the fire was knocked down around midnight, but flames continued to burn in the back.
Surfside Beach Fire and Midway Fire assisted with the call.
In a separate incident, a mobile home fire was reported on Jones Ave. in Andrews at about 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. Flames were coming from the roof when crews arrived. We will have more on that fire when details are available.
