If Sunbelt Ventures wants its redevelopment plans for Pawleys Plaza reviewed by the Georgetown County Planning Commission next month, it has less than a week to get all of the necessary materials to the county.

Sunbelt has already submitted plans that include a 119,500-square-foot store for the plaza on U.S. Highway 17 in Pawleys Island.

Although Sunbelt partner Dusty Wiederhold declined to comment on who would occupy the main retail space, others familiar with the plan say it will be a Walmart.

Georgetown County Planning Director Boyd Johnson is waiting for a traffic study and plans for main store. Johnson said Sunbelt told him the traffic study is complete and is being reviewed by company officials.

In order to review the plan at the Planning Commission meeting in September, the county needs to run public notices in local newspapers and send letters to residents who live within 400 feet of the property.

Johnson said the letters would be mailed out next Friday and the first public notices would be in next Friday’s Georgetown Times, which means

Sunbelt needs to bring the rest of the materials to his office by Wednesday at the latest.

The next Planning Commission meeting is Sept. 20 at 5:30 p.m. If the Pawleys Plaza plan is on the agenda, the meeting will be held at the new Performing Arts Center at Waccamaw High School.

If it not on the agenda, the commission meets in County Council chambers in the Old Courthouse in Georgetown.
