GEORGETOWN, S.C. — A former board member of the Waccamaw Economic Opportunity Council was arrested Tuesday morning after police said he put a gun to his ex-girlfriend’s head.
According to a police report, Abdullah Mustafa, 46, of Conway entered his ex-girlfriend’s home in Little River around 5:30 a.m.
He allegedly threatened her and her male friend who spent the night.
‘Yelling at both victims’
The report indicated Mustafa was yelling at both victims.
Then, after the ex-girlfriend begged him to leave, he took her car and left the area.
According to the report, Mustafa later told police that he did go to the home to confront the woman about cheating on him.
Mustafa was booked at J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday.
He is charged with pointing and presenting a firearm.
Removed from board
On Aug. 31, Mustafa was removed from the WEOC board after the remaining board members agreed to accept the results of a reassessment vote that took place last month.
In the reassessment vote — by a tally of 54-29 — the residents in the district he served voted him off the board.
His removal from the WEOC board was one of the stipulations handed down by the state.
These stipulations need to be met in order for the agency to keep receiving funds it needs to help people in need in Georgetown, Horry and Williamsburg counties.
