A man police say robbed a Pawleys Island restaurant Wednesday night has been arrested.

Brian Dennison, 38, of Pawleys Island has been charged with armed robbery in connection with the incident that occurred at the Blue Crab restaurant on Ocean Highway.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified the restaurant was being robbed by two men at about 11:13 p.m. Wednesday.

One of the men allegedly forced the manager into the restaurant and robbed the business at gunpoint. The manager said he was walking to his car to leave for the night when “someone came out the woods running towards him with a gun,” the report states.

The robber asked for the money from his pockets and when he realized the manager had no money he made him go back inside to get money from the safe. While they were walking, the man said he saw the second suspect in the woods.

Once inside, the gunman said he did not want to hurt the manager but would do so if he did not hurry.

The robber grabbed a bag from the kitchen and ordered the manager to fill it with cash. Once that was complete, he made the manager open the back door.

The men then fled in a Toyota with the license plate covered up.

While searching the area for the suspects, a deputy spotted a vehicle matching the description on the South Causeway of Pawleys Island.

A traffic stop was made on the vehicle and the men were ordered to step out of the car with their hands up.

Dennison — the only person in the vehicle — complied but said he did nothing wrong but declined to answer any questions, the report states.

A knit black hat, like the one investigators were told one of the men was wearing, was found in the car.

He was arrested and charged after being positively identified by one of the people who were at the restaurant when the robbery occurred.
