GEORGETOWN, S.C. — The first fatal traffic accident in Georgetown County since February claimed the life of a Highmarket Street man Sunday afternoon.
Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson identified the victim as 37 year old Santos Morales.
According to the S.C. Highway Patrol, Morales was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi when he was struck head on be a 2004 Toyota driven by 65 year old Calvin Perkins of Conway.
The accident is being recreated to determine exactly what happened but one of the vehicles is believed to have swerved into the opposite lane to try to avoid hitting a moped driven by Luther Durgen of Georgetown.
Perkins and Durgen were transported to the hospital. There conditions were not available Sunday evening. Johnson said their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Three people have died on Georgetown County roadways this year.
