A Murrells Inlet man was arrested after a passenger in a vehicle was spotted littering.

While on patrol in Pawleys Island Wednesday, deputies saw the passenger of a vehicle throw something out of the window.

"The vehicle was initially stopped for the littering offense and three passengers were ordered out of the vehicle after sheriff’s deputies saw in plain view drug paraphernalia," Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Carrie Cuthbertson states in a press release.

The vehicle was searched and the deputies found several syringes commonly used to ingest illegal substances, states Cuthbertson.

At the conclusion of the search, the rear passenger was found to have in his possession 26 bags of what is believed to be heroin and one bag of what is believed to be synthetic marijuana.

Seth Hummell, 18, of 8099 Bark Court was taken into custody and was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The driver was released and the other passenger was issued a ticket for littering and released.

Hummell was transported to the Georgetown County Detention Center.
