GEORGETOWN, S.C. — A series of hurricane conferences, meant to give information helpful to the public, will be held at different locations in Georgetown and Horry counties beginning next week.
The conferences, which spread from Pawleys Island to Garden City Beach, Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, are an effort to distribute information that is particular to that community.
Karen Nierengarten, who organizes the conference in Garden City Beach, said the event is being held for the fourth year.
The program will be held at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Duffy Center, St. Micheal Catholic Church. The doors will open at 7 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:30 p.m.
“This will have an emphasis on Surfside, Garden City Beach and Murrells Inlet,” she said. “We encourage people to come early for seating, because attendance is over 800.”
Information provided will include pet friendly motels and locations of hurricane shelters, she said.
“There is no vending, it’s just information,’’ she said.
