It won’t be a repeat of March when a portion of Highway 17 in Georgetown was closed for drainage project work but there will be lane closures beginning Sunday.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation’s (SCDOT) says the construction contractor for the drainage project, Republic Contracting, needs to implement the lane closures along Fraser Street to finish the job.

This construction along Fraser Street is expected to take 60 days to complete.

Starting Monday, sub-contractor, Uretek ICR, will begin the sealing/grouting operation at the wet well site located at the corner of Dozier and Front Streets.

Once the sealing operation along the exterior of the wet well is completed, the de-watering of the wet well will begin to allow the construction of the pumping station, according to the SCDOT.

An extensive monitoring plan will be conducted during de-watering. The monitoring plan includes real time analysis of water levels and pressure from monitoring wells installed throughout the project area. Stop points have been identified so that the de-watering can be halted immediately if necessary.
