The Georgetown Business Association held its Georgetown Rocks the Equinox Musical Festival Reception on Saturday evening at the Georgetown Maritime Museum on Front Street.

The reception launched a series of activities to promote the upcoming musical festival which will be held on September 22nd from 2 to 11 p.m. in the historic commercial district.

Artist Danny McLaughlin was on hand to sign copies of his artwork, and a portrait was donated by Mclaughlin that was auctioned during the evening.

A 14-foot Beaufort Skiff sail boat was auctioned for a price of $3,600.

All of the proceeds received from the reception and the music festival will go to the Tara Hall Home for Boys.

 Tara Hall is a nationally accredited, long-term, residential home and school that accepts neglected, troubled, and abused boys.

Some of them have been taken away from abuse and neglect and some have been sent away from their homes because of their unmanageable behavior.

Tara Hall Director Jim Dumm said, “Tonight is one of the biggest fundraisers that we will have this year and I thank the Georgetown Business Association for helping.”

Complimentary wine, beer, and light appetizers were served.

Limpin’ James and the Rice Paddy provided the food.

Georgetown City Councilman Paige Sawyer was in attendance and said he was there to support the music festival that will be coming up in two weeks.

“We need to do a musical festival and the festival itself will be bigger,” said Sawyer.

T-shirts, posters, and a table at the front entrance were set up to accept donations.

On the day of the music festival Front Street will be closed from Orange to Screven street.

There will be two stages and two beer gardens with 11 bands performing.
