Emergency workers save man's hand from amputation
Georgetown County firefighters and EMS worked frantically to save a man who got caught in a piece of farm machinery.
It happened on Old Pee Dee Road this afternoon.
A 60-year-old man, according to reports, got his hand caught in a corn picker.
When emergency workers arrived they began trying to free the man but were initially unsuccessful.
A surgeon from the Medical University of South Carolina was contacted and was asked to respond to the farm to possibly perform an amputation.
The emergency workers continued to try to free the man and save his hand. Shortly before 2 p.m. their efforts paid off and the man was freed.
He is being transported to MUSC for treatment.
