Dozier finalist for top state award
Georgetown County Superintendent Dr. Randy Dozier is one of three finalists for the 2014 South Carolina Superintendent of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SACS).
The other two finalists are Saluda School District One Superintendent Dr. David Mathis and Clarendon School District One Superintendent Dr. Rose Wilder.
“There was an outstanding group of talented leaders presented in the selection process,” said Molly Spearman, executive director of SACS. “We are grateful for the impactful leadership each of them continues to offer our communities and state every day,” she added.
Dozier said he is “honored” by the nomination because there are a number of great superintendents across the state.
“It’s a team effort. The teachers do a lot of hard work every day. We get a lot of support from the schools, booster clubs and the school board,” he said. “I would not be in the final group if it was not for all of them. It’s a really good group effort.”
The three finalists will participate in interviews conducted by a team of South Carolina business, education, and community leaders on Thursday, May 2. The announcement of the 2014 Superintendent of the Year will be made during the Superintendents’ Roundtable Meeting at SACS later that day.
The Superintendent of the Year will be recognized throughout the year for their accomplishments. Moseley Architects supports the award by providing a scholarship to the winner to be used to assist a student or teacher with professional development or college courses.
SACS is the professional organization for school leaders in South Carolina, with a membership of more than 3,400. From professional development opportunities and research, to publications and legislative advocacy, SCASA’s focus is to support school leaders in providing the best possible education for South Carolina’s young people. As a state affiliate of three national associations for school leaders, SACS also works on the national level.
