Cats on Pennyroyal test negative for rabies. Others remain in quarantine.
Published Friday, November 06, 2009 9:54 AM
Four cats that were tested for rabies on Pennyroyal Road did not have the disease, according to officials with Georgetown County environmental services.
Other cats in the same area remain under quarantine for about 10 days, to ensure they did not come in contact with an infected animal.
A dog that was sent to Columbia for testing did not have rabies, said Environmental Services Director Jay Cox.
The animals on Pennyroyal Road were taken in because they had possibly been exposed to the illness, he said.
There are no other plans to collect stray animals in that area, he said.
At one child, Alexis Bone, is receiving shots after she was bitten by a rabid kitten at her home on Pennyroyal Road.
