Firefighters from all across Georgetown County have been assisting with a series of brush fires that were all reported at about the same time this afternoon.
The fires stretched alongside Highway 521 from Garrison Road westward to the Andrews Bypass.
Because of the number of firefighters from Georgetown County, Andrews and Georgetown City it is taking to work the blazes, Midway Fire and Awendaw Fire have been requested to assist by standing by at County fire stations in case there are other calls that require attention.
The fires are causing traffic concerns. Firefighters say visibility is becoming a problem on Highway 521 in that area because of the smoke.
Please use caution if driving in that area.
The cause of the fires is being investigated and arson is a possibility.
The law enforcement branch of the S.C. Forestry Commission has now been requested to help investigate.
